Tabitha, Matilda or something else?!

frillyfarmer · 22/02/2020 21:23

I really really love Tabitha, but our surname is Thatcher and I worry it's too wordy on the Thas?! I also love Matilda but I already have a Matty and I think perhaps it's too twee to have children with the same letter - am I overthinking it?

Other names on my list are Penelope, Eliza (DH doesn't like) and Francesca. DH likes felicity but I'm not keen on any of the nicknames. I wouldn't necessarily want either Tabitha or Matilda nicknamed either.

Any thoughts or suggestions - were really quite stuck with which way to go!

I love Tabitha and Matilda.

Matilda can be shortened to Matty though so I would go for that.

I also like Phoebe and Frances.

RoseMartha · 22/02/2020 22:13

Matilda can be shortened to Tilly

Or

Phoebe
Beatrice
Eleanor
Jennifer

I tried to say Tabitha Thatcher out loud and it actually sounds better than I thought it would. So I don't think you should automatically rule it out. Try saying it out loud to friends a couple of times and see how it feels ?

Matilda is a nice name but I'd probably automatically shorten it to Matty so if you already have a child named Matty that may be awkward.

You seem to like three-syllable names with A's so how about :

Anita
Marina
Alina
Alexia
Alicia
Cassilda/Cassandra

Astronica · 23/02/2020 02:18

I think Tabitha is a bit too much of a tongue-twister with the surname. Pity, such a good name. I love Matilda too but wouldn't do it if you already have a Matty.

Cressida
Bridget

Adelaide

Julia
Juliet
Anastasia

Clementine

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 23/02/2020 02:20

Yeah Tabitha might be a tongue twister and Matilda is too close to Matty.

I really love Penelope with your surname.

Poorolddaddypig · 23/02/2020 07:02

I ADORE Tabitha! It is a bit of a tongue twister with Thatcher but not too bad!

I love Tabitha and think it goes fine with your surname. I also like Penelope and Felicity from your list.

BasilDiffuser · 23/02/2020 07:21

Very prissy names.

Jemima
Harriet
Lydia

moctodtensmum · 23/02/2020 08:11

I love all your names. I think Tabitha Thatcher is OK and Matilda is fine with Matty as long as you don’t use Matty as a nickname.

Similar names I also like:
Florence
Beatrice
Theodora
Jemima
Isabella
Eloise

However, speaking as someone who got hung up on little worries about my favourite name, and chose a second best name, I’d go with Matilda or Tabitha.

itsgettingweird · 23/02/2020 08:50

Rose your name taste is similar to mine.

I also had Beatrice on my list and from the age of 5 was going to call any girl I had Jennifer/ Jenny like my baby doll!

I also meant Matilda can be short red to Matty so I wouldn't use it ( not would!) but yes it can be Tilly too but you can't control nn so it's a risk.

wizzler · 23/02/2020 08:56

How about Miranda?

BirdIsland · 23/02/2020 09:07

I had Tabitha on my list and also had:

Alicia
Mollie
Kaia
Hannah
Abigail

Whatsyourflava · 23/02/2020 09:23

I love Matilda Penelope Eliza and felicity

Tabitha isn’t to my taste but is ok

Other suggestions:

I think Tabitha sounds fine with Thatcher. I wouldn't shorten Matilda to Matty, either - definitely Tilly if it had to be abbreviated. Both lovely names - as a PP said, Penelope sounds great with your surname too. I really like all your names (apart from Felicity, sorry) so not much help!

RoseMartha · 23/02/2020 12:30

@itsgettingweird 👍🏻 Smile

AlpacaGoodnight · 24/02/2020 23:07

Love Tabitha and think it sounds fine with Thatcher when said outloud

123Dancewithme · 25/02/2020 22:39

Tabitha Thatcher sounds good!

KeeefBurtain · 27/02/2020 07:26

I think Tabitha Thatcher works really well.

Some other suggestions

Carmen
Emerald
Delilah
Annabel

Although Thatcher is such a strong surname you could go for something softer like

Nancy
Maisy
Elsie
Rosie

Congratulations, from an old penguin x

Whatsyourflava · 27/02/2020 08:08

Oh dear I suggested Margaret 🤦‍♀️
