Thoughts on Etta

Hello, just wondered what people thought of the name Etta? I keep coming back to it as an option for our baby girl due soon! I’ve considered longer names that could have Etta as a NN (eg Henrietta) but haven’t found any I’m drawn to as much as the name Etta in its own right. Thank you

From my experience personally I would just call the child the name you will always call them if you have no intention of calling them the longer name. love Etta :)

dellacucina · 22/02/2020 09:19

I think it's very nice. Could be a nickname or standalone.

eandz13 · 22/02/2020 09:21

Etta is a beautiful name in its own right.

wigglycactus · 22/02/2020 09:21

Really love it! Also would just use Etta rather than a longer name, unless you really love the longer name as well. She could potentially end up having another nickname if you give her a longer name too, which would be really annoying!

DelurkingAJ · 22/02/2020 09:21

I’m afraid my first thought was the Basque terrorist group. But it does sound perfectly lovely if you don’t have that association and her peer group won’t know about them, I would think.

Oliversmumsarmy · 22/02/2020 09:24

Lovely name but first thought Basque terrorist.

Kiki275 · 22/02/2020 09:51

My first thought was Etta James, I think it's a lovely name x

Pieceofpurplesky · 22/02/2020 10:03

Beautiful x Etta James

villamariavintrapp · 22/02/2020 10:07

Yes the terrorists for me too.

NoSauce · 22/02/2020 10:19

I don’t like it. Seems unfinished and even a bit harsh.

Electrical · 22/02/2020 10:27

It’s ok, but my accent says it ‘edda’, various types of English accents would say it ‘eh-ah’ or ‘ettaaaaarh’.

Whatsyourflava · 22/02/2020 11:01

Great name - love it!

Mamabear88 · 22/02/2020 11:45

Really like Etta. Really don't like Henrietta.

Cbeebiesrehab · 22/02/2020 13:08

Love Etta! Could never use it as I have an EffieGrin

DramaAlpaca · 22/02/2020 13:11

I find Etta hard sounding & unfinished. It 'belongs' on the end of Henrietta but doesn't sound quite right on its own.

OhCaptain · 22/02/2020 13:12

I love it!

Overthinker1988 · 25/02/2020 19:28

I don't like Etta as a stand-alone name personally. It doesn't sound like a real name. When I was a child I had a friend whose little sister was called Estella and they called her Etty for short. I think Estella/Estelle would work shortened to Etta. Really pretty names too.

AlpacaGoodnight · 25/02/2020 20:57

Love it! I would keep at a stand alone name

BobbyBlueCat · 25/02/2020 20:58

Terrorists.

Greenmarmalade · 25/02/2020 21:00

Lovely. I know 2 3ish year olds called Etta. Beautiful name.

Canshopwillshop · 25/02/2020 21:02

I love it!
