Finding MN so helpful right now in our never ending search for the perfect girls name!

Latest addition is Mabel. I’d appreciate some thoughts please - DD1 is Ruby.

I really don't like Mabel - sorry op! Ruby is so pretty and Mabel sounds like someone's batty old Aunt.

I really do like it although I can understand that many others won't. It's from the Latin 'Amabel' I think, loving lovable. It's rarely heard nowadays but people assume, fill out, their names. I have a friend who called her eldest Doris, to much sniggering, and she just inhabits and carries it.

I knew a 75 year old who was embarrassed her middle name was Mabel.

Please don't. It's horrid

I like it personally but DH vetoed because he thinks it’s a dogs name.

I think it's quite pretty. It's probably going to become more popular now because of the pop singer Mabel so there might be quite a few girls with the name.
It's nice though.

I had a pug called Mabel - love the name ha!

I like it! The singer Mabel is cool and she’s Neneh Cherry’s daughter so Neneh obviously thought it was alright.

I had a cat called Mabel and I think the name is so cute!

My aunt was called Mabel, she always hated her name. I really dislike the name but I may have been influenced by her feelings about it.

Mabel goes well with Ruby, I think. Both Edwardian style names. Otehrs that might work:

Mabel, Darcy and Elowyn were my top three if this baby was a girl. I love it and it goes really well with Ruby

I love Mabel. It was on my shortlist 14 years ago and I sometimes have pangs of regret for not using it.

I like it. Reminds me of maple - as in trees, sugar, and syrup - and I am wholly in favour of these. And it's a completely legitimate, traditional girls' name. That said, I might be tempted by "Amabel". I find I have "Arabel" persistently on my baby name short list. No idea how it got there, but I love it.

I used to teach a Ruby and her little sister Mabel-they were gorgeous and came from such a cool, quirky family

My best friend’s baby girl is Mabel - she is the most gorgeous happy little thing and has made me absolutely love the name. Yes from me!
