Help shorten my long list of girls names.

I am expecting a little girl in April and need to make my long list of girls names a bit more manageable.

Evangeline has been my favourite for a very long time. I love the sound of it with Lily as a second name but as that is the name of a famous actor, obviously I won't be using it. I am open to any other short names ending with an 'ee' sound.

The other names I have combined but again open to alternative arrangements or suggestions of different names.

Elle Isabel
Elliott Honor
Elanora Sylvie
Emmanuelle Iris
Cynthea Lily (family name but cute nicknames - Cynth, Thea)
Leonora Violet
Maike Isabel (I think this is German but so cute, I love Micah for a boy too)

If you have read this far (thanks) you'll probably have noticed I love Elle and Ella as nicknames and I also love the name Honor but unsure about using it as a first name.

Naming babies is hard!
TIA for suggestions :)

I love love love Elliott for a girl and would have used it if I'd not had boys 🙄

Nightsofthunder · 19/02/2020 22:45

Elanora Sylvie - I prefer Eleanor
Emmanuelle Iris
Leonora Violet

I like Thea rather than Cynthea/Cynthia. I do really like Evangeline though and also with Lily. It wouldn't bother me about sharing the name with the actress. It's very pretty.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 19/02/2020 22:48

Isn't it Meike not Maike?

Cynthia or Leonora are lovely. I like Emmanuelle but not sure it can escape the connotations...

definitelynottwelvenow · 19/02/2020 22:49

I love Leonora from that list!

CalleighDoodle · 19/02/2020 22:51

Meika
And Leonora are my favourites

Squirrelpeanutbutter · 19/02/2020 22:53

I like Eleanor, that’s all.

123Dancewithme · 19/02/2020 22:57

Leonora Violet is nice.

Twooter · 19/02/2020 22:57

Elle Isabel is hard to say.
Why not Thea Lily? Don’t like cynthia tbh.

Poetryinaction · 19/02/2020 22:59

Elle Isabel
Emmanuelle Iris
Maike Isabel

all ok

SherryPort18 · 19/02/2020 23:11

Thanks for the feedback.
I also really like Adelaide.

Would Maike/Meike be a strange choice considering we have no connection to Germany whatsoever?

Yes, it would. But if you have to use it, spell it Meike.

I have never heard of an actress called Evangeline, and I can't be the only one. If you love it, use it!

CertieCumboyle · 19/02/2020 23:22

Should perhaps have said that I spent many of my formative years in Germany, and would flinch at the Maike spelling of Meike...

Poorolddaddypig · 20/02/2020 04:51

Eleanore/Eleanora Sylvie or Leonora Violet are lovelh

Poorolddaddypig · 20/02/2020 04:51

*lovely

Poorolddaddypig · 20/02/2020 04:53

I prefer Thea alone or what about Theodora, nn Thea? Cynthia reminds me of Angelica’s terrifying doll I’m Rugrats Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 20/02/2020 05:02

I have a German colleague who spells it Maike...

hawaiianturtle · 20/02/2020 06:37

I love Thea, I know it's not technically on the list but such a lovely name. My girls middle name is Thea xx

sorryiasked · 20/02/2020 06:51

Why not just go with evangeline lily? (I had to Google the actress and I've still no idea who she is!) I doubt people are going to make the connection especially if lily will be the middle name rather than surname and therefore rarely mentioned.

Nightsofthunder · 20/02/2020 09:39

For everyone who doesn't know who she is, Evangeline Lily was a main character in the tv show Lost, a main character Elf in The Hobbit films, a main character in Ant Man and subsequently was in an Avengers film. A LOT of people will know who she is.
But that doesn't make the name unusable OP.

Piapea · 20/02/2020 09:47

Maike is an accepted spelling more common in northern Germany. I think using Maike over Meike in the UK will lead to more people pronouncing correctly first try.

Names that could be used instead of Lily as a middle name for Evangeline:

Evangeline Polly
Evangeline Anna
Evangeline Cora
Evangeline Lara
Evangeline Molly
Evangeline Mary

Spied · 20/02/2020 09:47

Thea. That's all I like that's been mentioned.
Heidi?
Marnie?
Callie?

TheVoiceInTheShed · 20/02/2020 09:49

Leonora Violet
Evangeline Rose

Piapea · 20/02/2020 09:56

Here are some of your names mixed up

Adelaide Elle
Leonora Elliott
Honor Emmanuelle
Evangeline Thea
Elliott Isabel
Elanora Lily

Concentrate on the first name, no one uses second names in daily life.
And I'd stick to the usual spellings to prevent a lifetime of having to correct people!
Focus on potential nicknames is great, these are what gets used everyday, and can change as a child grows.

mnthrowaway202020 · 20/02/2020 11:06

Elle Isabel sounds very weird, as you’re repeating the same sound ie - Elle Isabelle. It doesn’t flow and doesn’t quite work.

My name is Elle! I sort of wish I had a longer variant as my name like Eleanor, it’s like my name is a nickname almost. People call me Ellie/Ella etc all the time, it’s like their brain can’t process that it’s just “Elle”.
