Boy Preferences

I'm only 16 weeks and we don't know if it's a boy or a girl, but I've always found boys names harder (I have two girls). These are the three names we like at the moment:

Sebastian (always been my favourite boys name, DP isn't as keen)

William (I like this but it doesn't excite me. It was my Grandad's middle name though, so I like that connection)

Zachary (I really like this name. It's my cousin's name, I don't see him very often at all, but my family would immediately associate it with him)

Which of the three are your favourite? And do you have any other suggestions based on the above?

I really like all 3
Favourites are Sebastian and William

Here are some other suggestions:

Christopher nn Kit
Wilf(red) nn Wilf
Barnaby nn Barns or Barney
Nathan/Nathaniel nn Nate
Rafferty or Raphael nn Raffy
Sidney nn Sid
Elliot
Eli
Ellis
Miles or Milo
Seth
Cole
Otis
Eric
Jasper
Dominic
Caleb

All three full names are quite long and may possibly shortened.

Personally I don't like
Seb - sebaceous or Basty - too close to Bastard
Will or Willy - one is a verb, the other a noun
Zach is ok but sounds like Sack.

How about
Dominic
Edward
Reuben
Quentin
Magnus
Felix

userabcname · 19/02/2020 18:11

I like all three. I'd pick Sebastian with William as the mn.

Standrewsschool · 19/02/2020 18:12

William is my favourite.

Alternatives:
Wilfred
Christopher
Samuel
Isaac
Julian
Frederick

Of the 3, I really like Zachary, don’t mind Sebastian and HATE William.

Poppydaisies · 19/02/2020 18:24

I only like Sebastian (but not Seb or Sebby)

I hate the Willi part of William.

99bb · 19/02/2020 18:29

All lovely, Sebastian is one of my favourite names ever

allthesharks · 19/02/2020 18:37

Thank you for the opinions.

I prefer longer names. My daughters names are 4 and 3 syllables, so a one syllable name would sound odd with the two of them.

I also like the shortenings Seb, Will and Zach. In fact, I prefer Will to the full name William.

I quite like Quentin. I'm not sure what DP will think. I'll ask him.

Boys names are so much harder.

We've also discussed Elliot, which we both quite like. DP is a teacher and he has an Elliot in his class so that's put him off. He's trying to talk himself out of that way of thinking though, as he knows he'll always be able to associate names with children in his school.

I really like Sebastian and William. I also love Alistair if that helps.

allthesharks · 19/02/2020 18:43

Me: What do you think to the name Quentin?
DP: For what? A snake?

I guess that's out then.

Love Zachary - zac as a nn is nice too - can get the same nn from Isaac
Sebastian is my second favourite from your list. Seb as a nn is better than bastion or basti
Williams ok - better as a middle name.

How about
Alexander
Timothy
Christopher
Benjamin
Joseph
Stanley
Robert

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/02/2020 18:50

Love William/Will

The other two are fine as well.

Alexander
Joshua
Nicholas/Nico

FLETCHER :)

Top of my boy list currently!

Isntshelovelyisntshewonderful · 19/02/2020 20:58

We have the same taste in names 😊

I have a Sebastian and I love it. He gets Seb and Sebby at the moment (which I really like), but is only 2.5 so I’m sure there’s the possibility of other nickname options once he’s older and at school. It suits him so much and I get so many compliments on his name.

We are ttc dc3 and if we have a boy then Zachary is my current fave.

Love William as well but can’t use it for family reasons, but it’s a real classic, timeless name with great nick name options.

Congratulations 😊 xx

EllaWallace · 19/02/2020 21:22

All great names IMO but if I had to choose it would be Zachary, just a bit more oomph than Sebastian and more unusual than William.

I love the name Tobias and for me it's in the same headspace as Zachary.

allthesharks · 19/02/2020 21:33

I think I'm a bit less keen on William out of the three. It is timeless, but I think the other two are a bit more unusual. My daughters have more unusual names, still proper names, but not as commonly used. DD1s name was 406th in popularity when she was born and DD2s was 96th. I didn't choose them because they were different, but I do like that they're the only ones that each of them know. On that basis as well, I think Sebastian is becoming more common. Whereas Zachary is less so. I love Sebastian though.

Sebastian is my favourite.

I’m suggesting some less used names (I think) and some I love

Jonathan
Jasper
Theodore
Benedict
Clarence
Cuthbert
Percy
Maximillan
Rupert
Edard
Edwin
Brice
Felix
Francis
Jeremy
Jeremiah
Obediah

I Love
Daniel
Billy
Lucius
Thomas
Jonah
Otis
Miles
Joseph
Isaac

Nowayorhighway · 20/02/2020 14:09

I love Sebastian. I wanted to call DS it but DH vetoed because he went to school with one who was a twat... It’s one of DS’s middle names instead.

Grufallosfriends · 20/02/2020 15:01

They're long names and will inevitably get shortened, so do you like Seb/by, Will/y or Zac? Personally I don't like any of these short forms.

I do really like the suggestions of
Elliot
Christopher
Alexander
Quentin (biased as we have one Smile)
