What’s your opinion of each? Like classic names, any suggestions of similar ?

Margaux is a nicer spelling and avoids the Mar-got pronunciation.

I really wanted to call DD2 Ophelia. Unfortunately DH ruined it by asking if her middle name could be 'Tits'. After that, 'a-feel-of-yer-tits' was all I could hear!! 😂
We stayed with the Shakespearean theme, and decided on Juliette Smile

No. No and no.

Ophelia, although spelt differently is paed.... Ophelia. Haem.... Ophelia. And so on.

Margot. Just so very very ugly.

Penelope. Pitstop. And the inevitable nickname of Penny.

Are these seriously the three nicest names you can think of?

TatianaLarina · 16/02/2020 21:59

Ophelia spelt differently is onomatopoeia.

Whatsyourflava · 16/02/2020 22:02

Wow “are these seriously the three nicest names you could think of”?! What a horrid thing to say. Would love to know what their kids are called.

OP I really love all three names. I always give constructive criticism when I can on these boards but don’t really see a comment like that as constructive

I like all 3 but my favourite is Penelope. With Penelope I don't mind Penny but love the more unusual diminutives such as Nell, Pepper, Pip, Pen. Showing my age, but Margot was the character played by Penelope Keith in 1970s sitcom The Good Life - so Margot and Penelope in the same list makes me smile.

DramaAlpaca · 16/02/2020 22:30

I like Penelope very much.

Ophelia is beautiful, but I associate it with the tragic Shakespearean character and I can't get beyond that.

No to Margot, so harsh & ugly to my ears.

TatianaLarina · 16/02/2020 22:36

But you can get beyond Penelope being cheated on multiple times for 20 years...

Nowayorhighway · 17/02/2020 13:03

I love Ophelia and Penelope, not a fan of Margot. Ophelia is on our shortlist if we have a girl, great name.

Rebs1994 · 17/02/2020 13:05

I have a 3 year old Penelope, shortened to Pea so that's my favourite of the three. Although I also love Ophelia and Margot!

Mamabear88 · 17/02/2020 13:58

I absolutely love Ophelia, definitely go with that.

soupforbrains · 17/02/2020 14:05

I love the name Ophelia but make sure that your surname doesn't sound like or rhyme with any body parts as all the Ophelia's I've know have been known as Pheely and while I like that too, one who I knew have a surname which rhymed with bottom and used to just get teased and taunted about feeling bottoms etc. juvenile obviously but this sort of thing can affect a child.

CountFosco · 17/02/2020 14:14

Like Margot and Penelope. Ophelia is too strongly associated with the character from Hamlet.

yourgaybestfriend · 17/02/2020 16:48

Penelope is not ok it reminds me of the pig woman
oink oink

Ophelia famously killed herself

Margot is only ok bc margot Robbie

FoxFriend · 17/02/2020 17:09

Margot is having a bit of a moment, I think. So it depends whether that’s a factor for you.

I personally prefer Penelope to Ophelia purely because of the strong Hamlet connection.
