For a boy, obviously.
Can't decide if I love it or hate it

Such a drippy sound, like sodden socks dripping on a drying rack.

Tillygetsit · 12/02/2020 22:45

It's a family surname on DH side so we had planned to use it as a middle. Expecting dc4 and still not used.

Loli2 · 13/02/2020 21:10

love it

Can be sophisticated in its full name or cool and fun as Frank or Frankie.

A good name which will work well in all employment areas!

vitaminC · 13/02/2020 21:14

It's not intrinsically bad, but I would expect the parents to be devout Catholics if I met a baby Francis.
Frankie is cute and reminds me of the Sister Sledge song Smile

AuntieStella · 13/02/2020 21:17

I'm another one who associates the name with Catholicism

Peregrina · 13/02/2020 21:18

The Francis and the Frank that I knew were both Methodists.
I know we have a Pope Francis, but names like John, Paul aren't considered Catholic. People don't even think of them as Biblical these days.

Now if you went for a name like Aloysius, I would think that very Catholic.

GlamGiraffe · 13/02/2020 21:20

No, sorry.its such a drippy name, I can't see anything redeeming about it

vitaminC · 13/02/2020 21:21

@Peregrina John and Paul separately aren't specifically Catholic names, but I would expect a John-Paul to be catholic.
Likewise every Vincent I have ever known was from a Catholic background.

Butterfly84 · 13/02/2020 21:26

Awful.

A pp said 'classy and cool'...it is most definitely not IMO, quite the oppostite...wet fish and posh try-hard.

SpottyShoeBow · 13/02/2020 21:28

I rarely disagree with names, but have a visceral dislike of Francis, or Frances.

SlippersAndThePaper · 14/02/2020 16:29

Awful. Always hated it, for a boy or girl.

CruCru · 14/02/2020 18:28

I love it (but then, I do like Frank as well). It sounds better in a RP accent than my hometown accent.

SebandAlice · 15/02/2020 15:12

I like it

emilybrontescorsett · 15/02/2020 16:28

I like it but really dislike Frank or Frankie.

Quizeerascal · 15/02/2020 17:04

I love it and the nicknames that go with it

JaneJeffer · 15/02/2020 17:12

Love it.

EllaWallace · 15/02/2020 23:13

I think it's a lovely, classic name but your son might not appreciate it at school as it does sound the exact same as girls version Frances... sorry :-(

Poetryinaction · 16/02/2020 07:44

You have to be a francophile.
