India - posh girl at boarding school
Indigo - sounds like "dingo", would have hippy-dippy parents
Isla - lovely
Nessa - Gavin & Stacey
Tessa - fine
Isobel/Isabel (nn Izzie) - everywhere
Lotta - German maid
Lottie - everywhere
Winter - mmm possibly
Teal - absolutely not
Saskia - lovely

Sweetpea84 · 11/02/2020 17:41

I have an India and love the name. My daughter hates it though 😬

TFSRM · 11/02/2020 17:41

Nessa, Tessa and Lottie sound like nicknames to me.

From your list I like Indigo, Isabel, Winter and Teal.

Kanga83 · 11/02/2020 17:43

Tessa and Saskia are lovely and will suit a teenager, a young woman and elderly woman. the others, no.

gebs · 11/02/2020 17:46

I have an India too, it was my husbands choice more than mine but I love the nickname Indie/Ins, he also liked Indigo at the time thinking about it x

Rio5555 · 11/02/2020 17:46

Love India

BobbyBlueCat · 11/02/2020 17:59

India - Nice.
Indigo - Not hideous but it's a bit much. Okay if you're a vegan hippy living in a camper van for life or so frightfully posh that you can get away with a batshit name but if you are a '2.4 children normal set up' it's wanky.
Isla - I don't like how it looks on paper.
Nessa - Hideous. The name a zoo would ive a hippo or an elephant.
Tessa - Horrible. Dated but not in a good way.
Isobel/Isabel (nn Izzie) - Nice. Can't decide which spelling I prefer though.
Lotta - Too 'nicknamey'. Abbreviation. Too many ways to tease her with that nickname as a teenager.
Lottie - That's not a name, it's an abbreivation. It's nice as a nickname for a Charlotte / Carlotta etc but not as a full name.

Winter - Sounds like a boy's name to me. Like it though.
Teal - Fucking ridiculous.
Saskia - Name you'd give a huskie.

Whatsyourflava · 11/02/2020 18:08

I really like India Isla Lottie and Winter

Do not like Teal though it’s awful in my opinion but I must admit it’s a name I also liked the name when hormonal and pregnant. I’m glad DH told me where to go when I suggested it

bridgetreilly · 11/02/2020 18:11

Tessa, Isabel or Saskia.

I strongly object to the name India and its colonialist overtones.

user1493494961 · 11/02/2020 18:13

Like India, Isla, Tessa and Isabel. Like Lottie as a shortening for Charlotte. Teal and Nessa are dreadful.

Maduixa · 11/02/2020 18:15

OK - my uncensored, biased impressions:

India - nice look and sound; may have negative connotations (British colonialism) internationally
Indigo - a colour. If you love the sound, consider Inigo for a boy.
Isla - OK, but if not in Scotland, be prepared for the ISS-lah vs EYE-lah question
Nessa - like this but would use it, or Ness, as a nickname for Vanessa (or Agnes, although I don't like that as a name)
Tessa - like this and Tess, but as a nickname for T(h)eresa/Thérèse
Isobel/Isabel (nn Izzie) - like, and I'd use Isobel. I have a cousin with this name who goes by Iso (IS-oh), which I prefer to Izzie. Also like Isabelle and Isabella.
Lotta - Not a fave, but OK if short for something like Charlotte or Liselotte. Prefer Lottie or Lot to Lotta. Lotta seems like some kind of American candy bar - lotta nuts?
Lottie - as above
Winter - a season, or a surname. Maybe OK if it's a family surname.
Teal - a colour, or a type of duck
Saskia - love. Probably my favourite from your list :)

helpmum2003 · 11/02/2020 18:16

India - ok.
Indigo - no it's a colour
Isla - gorgeous
Nessa - sounds like a nn.? Use Vanessa
Tessa - lovely, timeless, suits all ages
Isobel/Isabel (nn Izzie) - lovely, timeless, suits all ages
Lotta - see Nessa and it'll be mispelt
Lottie - love it. Would probably use Charlotte to give child more choices
Winter - no it's a season
Teal - see Indigo
Saskia - like this.

Mamabear88 · 11/02/2020 18:20

Love Isla and Isobel / Isabel.. Winter is nice as a middle name, wouldn't use it as a first name though. Lottie is nice as a nickname for Charlotte. Tessa and Saskia are ok. Really dislike the rest.

Floribundance · 11/02/2020 18:22

India nope
Indigo nope
Isla nice
Nessa awful
Tessa ok
Isobel/Isabel (nn Izzie) very nice but HUGELY popular
Lotta no
Lottie ok
Winter no
Teal Christ no
Saskia ok

RebeccaCloud9 · 11/02/2020 18:26

Isla is by far the most popular name at my school. There were 5 in my class last year!

CorianderLord · 11/02/2020 18:26

Hate India, such a strange name to call an always white child. Plus, it's Katie Hopkins daughter.

Whatsyourflava · 11/02/2020 18:41

@RebeccaCloud9 the name has been on the decline since 2014 though. Still popular but much less Isla’s than there used to be.

Lovely name

Tinty · 11/02/2020 18:43

How about Astrid 😁

firstimemamma · 11/02/2020 18:53

Isla
Nessa
Tessa
Isobel/Isabel (nn Izzie)
Lottie

The above are the only ones I like, sorry! Really not keen on any of the others.

With Lottie I'd put Charlotte on the birth certificate so that the child has the choice when they are older (they might prefer Charlie to Lottie for example).

Tbh every name on your list sounds very posh to me.

Just choose the one you like best Smile

AudaCityLimits · 11/02/2020 18:57

India makes me think of Katie Hopkins.

Nowthereistwo · 11/02/2020 19:00

I really don't get the idea of naming your daughter after a developing country with a shocking attitude to females.

foxystoatfoxypig · 11/02/2020 21:35

India - lovely
Indigo - Fine for a boy. Prefer Inigo but only for a boy.
Isla- nice but bland and v popular
Nessa - lock ness monster
Tessa - my favorite!
Isobel/Isabel (nn Izzie) - see Isla
Lotta - lovely
Lottie - only as a nn for Charlotte
Winter - 2nd favorite. Love it but hate Winnie
Teal - not a name. It's a colour.
Saskia - very nice. I know one. She's a twat.

Strugglingtoquit · 11/02/2020 21:45

India - nope
Indigo - a bit too hipster
Isla - fine but very popular
Nessa - nope
Tessa - ok
Isobel/Isabel - I love this but variations on Isabel are extremely popular. It wouldn’t put me off a name I really loved though
Lotta - nice
Lottie - love as a nickname for Charlotte
Winter - hippy dippy
Teal - awful
Saskia - really like this

IVflytrap · 11/02/2020 22:14

Really like: Tessa, Saskia
OK: Winter, Nessa, Lottie
Boring due to overuse: Isla, Isabel + various spellings
Nah: India, Indigo, Lotta (it's slang for "a lot of", eg Whole Lotta Love)
Not a name: Teal. Don't use this one. Makes me think of internet slang like tl;dr.

JollyGiraffe12 · 11/02/2020 22:44

India is very pretty but admittedly not everyone’s cup of tea. I also like Isabel or Charlotte with nickname Lottie.
