We’re not sure yet if we’re having a boy or a girl. We have a boy’s name we both like but are struggling for a girl’s name. Names on my short list (although not sure DH is in love with any of them!) are:

Cora
Sylvia (nn Sylvie)
Audrey
Margot

Would be a sister for Rosa, our surname is one syllable.

Would love your thoughts!

I like Sylvia

CoalCraft · 06/02/2020 12:09

Sylvia or Cora :)

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 06/02/2020 12:46

I prefer Sylvie to Sylvia and think it works better with Rosa, so I’d go for Sylvie.

I like all the names on your list - though that probably doesn’t help!

Urkiddingright · 06/02/2020 13:26

I only like Margot. Sylvia is just an old woman’s name but not the type of name that’s back in fashion in any way, just an old woman’s name.

separatebeds · 06/02/2020 13:28

Not cora

separatebeds · 06/02/2020 13:28

Rosa and Cora don't sound good together

userabcname · 06/02/2020 13:30

Sylvia

Flymetothestars · 06/02/2020 13:40

Really love all 4 of your names! Favourite is Margot I think

Batqueen · 06/02/2020 13:41

Sylvia

uncomfortablydumb53 · 06/02/2020 13:44

Cora

bridgetreilly · 06/02/2020 15:16

In order, I like:
Audrey
Sylvia
Margot

I don't like Cora at all and I think it's very twee when paired with Rosa.

FluffyEggsontoast · 06/02/2020 15:32

Love them all
Particularly Margot

cheddaraddict · 06/02/2020 15:42

Hmm, I do wonder at how well Rosa and Cora go, or if they’re too similar. We do have a DS as well, so would be the three of them rather than just Rosa and Cora, if that makes a difference?

I like sylvia thats my fave out of those

I was going to say Cora but I think it's too similar to Rosa. Not keen on Sylvia (too me Old Lady rather than Old Lady Chic!). Love Margot and Audrey though!

MocholateMousse · 06/02/2020 17:57

Sylvia/Sylvie

cheddaraddict · 06/02/2020 19:46

Thanks everyone for your thoughts so far - I appreciate the honesty. I do like Sylvia but I worry it’s a bit of a “marmite” name, as it seems to be above. DH has said he likes Margot, and that we could use the nickname Maggie at home. Is that a bit of a stretch or do you think it’s ok?

OP posts:
emilybrontescorsett · 06/02/2020 19:51

Sylvia.

Batqueen · 06/02/2020 20:23

There will always be someone who hates the game you’ve chosen. FWIW Maggie is much more old lady to me but we all have our own associations don’t we?

Batqueen · 06/02/2020 20:23

*name

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/02/2020 20:34

Cora.

marmitecheesetoast · 07/02/2020 07:48

Margot is my favourite, followed by Sylvia (though agree with PP, Sylvie is nicer)

Yika · 07/02/2020 07:52

I like all of them but find Cora too similar to Rosa. I would go for Cory or Carey or something slightly more differentiated.

I think Sylvia is rather classic, actually, and I prefer it to Sylvie which is more fashionable now but won't be for ever.

Audrey and Margot are both nice names.

cheddaraddict · 09/02/2020 08:55

DH thinks that Cora is too similar to Rosa, I had kind of dismissed him until I read the PPs! It also works least well with our surname...

Find out in a week if baby is a boy or a girl - almost hoping for a boy just so naming is easier!
