Indie

I'm 28 weeks pregnant with DC2 and struggling with names.
We don't actually know the gender yet but i'm convinced we're having a girl. (already have a boys name picked in case)
Really like the name Indie for a girl but my DD is called Alexa, everyone calls her Lexi.
Is it too similar? Can anyone suggest anything I may like instead.

Thanks :)

Short for India? Indiana?

DigitalGhost · 03/02/2020 11:29

Not keen on India
Love Indiana but can just see my entire family calling her Indiana Jones

I know a few of these now, male and female. Not keen.
Zara.
Erica.
Erin.
Natalie.

BlueChampagne · 03/02/2020 12:25

or Indi Ref

BlueChampagne · 03/02/2020 12:29

Though Indigo would be cool, I think.

Erin and Zara are good shouts.
Zoe
Roxanne
Merryn
Tamsin
Willow
Zelda

BlueChampagne · 03/02/2020 12:29

Juno?

SellFridges · 03/02/2020 12:35

I really liked Indiana, non Indie. But, as DH told me at the time “we named the dog Indiana”.

SallyWD · 03/02/2020 12:43

I LOVE the Indian name Indira which means beauty. I think the name itself is beautiful and could be shortened to "Indie".

Astronica · 03/02/2020 12:46

I like Indigo nn Indie. Just Indie on its own is quite different in style to Alexa. If you give second daughter a 'little kid' name like Indie and the first has a grown-up name like Alexa then the 2nd will always be 'little sister'. Suggested names Erin, Tamsin, Juno, Zara, Natalie, Zelda, Zoe, Merryn would give the second girl an equal name.
Georgia
Verity
Penelope

Not keen on Zara or Erin.

Love Willow but a friend recently used it for their DD & I wouldn't feel right using it now.

Why is it so hard! lol

First thought was a type of music but I do like it as a name although would choose something else.

Make a list of names you like and see which fits the best when you have lived with her for a little while?

PlantPotting · 03/02/2020 13:35

I really like the name Indie and it’s definitely become a more mainstream name so I think it’s a good choice - still pretty unusual but not wacky

I don’t think you’ll get a massively positive reaction on here because mumsnet as a whole don’t tend to like this type of “ie” /nicknamey name (and totally respect everyone’s opinions on here), outside of mumsnet though these type of names are very popular - I say go for it!

If not how about other ie/y names:

Edith nn Edie
Margaret nn Maggie
Sadie
Clementine nn Clemmie
Imogen nn Immy
Roxanna/Roxanne nn Roxy
Rosie

Carouselfish · 03/02/2020 14:14

Adore it. Know a boy with the y ending and a girl short for Indigo.

Knowivedonewrong · 03/02/2020 14:20

My dog is Indy. Indiana is nice too.
I'm a massive Harrison Ford fan though.

VinceNoirsHair · 03/02/2020 14:23

I know a boy Indie. It's also the name of my friend's dog.

Personally, I wouldn't do it.

anotherypasswordtoremember · 03/02/2020 14:27

Whilst it is one of my favourite movie characters... Not keen for it as a name. Not just because Indiana Jones was a chap.

It seems like a cute nickname rather than a real name.

DigitalGhost · 03/02/2020 16:49

This is my worry. At least with DD Lexi she has Alexa if she wanted a more grown up name.

I think I just want something that's not traditional but also not totally wacky. Which I think is hard without it being a mega popular name.

I wouldn't worry about it being a popular name. A name is only a name, people are so much more than that!

I think about how many Louise's and Rebecca's I went to school with, we all had our way of telling them apart and no one ever thought 'urgh that's not very original'.

Go for a name that has heart, not a name for the sake of being unique. We get to call our pets our favourite weird names anyway! Smile

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

Thefaceofboe · 03/02/2020 18:43

Love! What about nn for Indigo

nixso29 · 03/02/2020 18:45

Lola and Lexie

Marlena1 · 03/02/2020 18:46

Romy
Jamie

VerbenaGirl · 03/02/2020 18:46

Love it, and absolutely fine with Lexi. I know an Indigo shortened to Indie.

LouisaJenny · 03/02/2020 18:49

Love Indie.

I also have a friend who has daughters Alexa and Indie. I think the names go really well, although her Alexa doesn’t shorten her name.
