It's not a name I would choose but that's because I didn't like Bruce Forsyth.
I have a friend who's husband is called Bruce though and he's a nice guy.

MikeUniformMike · 02/02/2020 13:52

It's ok. I wouldn't choose it as a first name but it didn't do Mr Springsteen any harm.

TheSandman · 02/02/2020 13:58

More popular in Scotland I would Imagine.

emmathedilemma · 02/02/2020 20:22

Only in the over 50's as far as I can tell @TheSandman ;)

Whatdayisit2 · 02/02/2020 20:25

It always reminds me of spruce pines! Gosh sorry op we aren't being very complimentary are we, but your baby is your choice !

DramaAlpaca · 02/02/2020 21:52

Awful. Sorry.

Hairyfairy01 · 02/02/2020 21:58

I quite like it but it does make me want to sing 'Bruce' from Matilda.

Tillygetsit · 02/02/2020 22:48

How weird. We were talking at lunch today about what names we looked like and my dsis was teasing her bf about looking like a Bruce. He was then told it was because he looked like the guy in Evil Dead!

bluesky962 · 02/02/2020 22:58

Sorry but I think it's awful! Instantly think of Bruce from Matilda which isn't a pleasant thought.

QuiteForgetful · 02/02/2020 23:11

I quite like "Bruce".

WellHolyGodMiley · 02/02/2020 23:23

I like it!

NumbersStation · 02/02/2020 23:27

Bruce is my one who got away. I’ve a soft spot for it.

Urkiddingright · 03/02/2020 10:53

Bloody hideous. My friend wanted to use it if she had a boy, I was so glad she had a girl!

Urkiddingright · 03/02/2020 10:53

I also think of Bruce Bogtrotter.

Bezalelle · 03/02/2020 12:05

I think of sleazy Bruce Patman from Sweet Valley High.

SoftBlocks · 03/02/2020 12:08

No.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 03/02/2020 12:11

Only if he grows up to be a philosopher.

FishCanFly · 03/02/2020 12:15

nice

florababy34 · 03/02/2020 12:19

I don't think the world is ready for little baby Bruces again, sorry.

SmellyBeard · 03/02/2020 12:29

Reminds me of shark in Finding Nemo.

Redken24 · 03/02/2020 12:30

If I'd had boys I would have had a Bruce.

sugarbum · 03/02/2020 12:37

My DDad was one. Its not something I would pick. I don't think its awful. Just a bit oddball for a baby.

He was given that name because they used to pick mothers surnames (as in maiden names) as first names for boys. His family were originally Scottish. His great gran was Mary Bruce.

I think he told my mother this once as she called her son (from her second husband) Phillips. with an S.

ellenpartridge · 03/02/2020 12:37

Not nice

TeaAddict235 · 03/02/2020 12:40

More brawns than brains

My DC have marmite names too

Frangipaniflower · 03/02/2020 12:46

I think if you are Scottish in Scotland it's a great name but I have a family member with that name and people have always found it amusing....
