Boy and girl names - narrow it down for me!

I am only 18 weeks so am wide open on names! I really want one that means something to us, my potentials fall into three groups -

  • Family names
  • Free or brave (to travel the world, be themselves)
  • 'Miracle' or 'blessing' as baby was a surprise, sooner than we'd planned Grin

Girls
Gwyneth nn Gwynnie (GGM's name, also means blessing)

Winifred nn Winnie (another GGM, also means blessing)

Camilla (free born and noble. Also huntress, we are a sporty couple)

Nasya (Hebrew, I am half Jewish, blessing or miracle. Worried this is a bit out there as we have a very British surname)

Girl's names I just like that don't really fit Grin

Erica (eternal ruler, powerful - it can be German and I do have a German connection)
Esther (Hebrew again, star)

Boys

I am really struggling with boys 😩 we have no good family names, 3/4 of our granddads were John lol

Frank (German, means free and brave, but I worry it's a little overused)
Jessie/ Jesse (apparently means blessing)
Levi (Hebrew, little heart which I think is really sweet)
Emil (German connection, means excellent)

I also like Eric which as above means ever ruler or mighty, how can I connect that to my meanings?! Grin

Any thoughts or preferences? We have middle names sorted they are family names and not negotiable, we have a two syllable British surname beginning with L.

Thank youuu Grin

Esther and Jesse from your lists.

emmathedilemma · 31/01/2020 17:53

I like your girls names apart from Camilla, sorry but I just think of Parker-Bowles and I went to school with a camilla who was a right bitch!
Frank is good
not a fan of Jessie
Levi despite the Jewish origins also shouts chav to me I’m afraid!
Emil - ok
Eric - my favourite of the lot

glitterbiscuits · 31/01/2020 17:57

Gwyneth or Esther
Eric - or Jesse at a push

Christmastree43 · 31/01/2020 18:05

Ooh thank you so much some fab input.

@Standrewsschool I do like Dawn!

@emmathedilemma you've confirmed my thoughts on some of them, for starters I know my mum won't let me go with Camilla as my mum is a Diana die hard and also the baby is due on Diana and my mother's birthday so it does feel a bit blasphemous!

DP also feels strongly against Levi as he's a footy player and plays with a lot of chavvy Levis ☹️

Lots of love for Eric! My worries with Eric are it becoming too popular, and also him being nn Rick or Ricky 🤢

My favourite among your names are Esther and Eric. The Levi I know is a girl btw.

bridgetreilly · 31/01/2020 18:36

Winifred! Though I prefer nn Freddy, but Winnie is also cute.

Of your boy names, I like Eric the best. Also, it's TOTALLY okay to pick a name just because you like it. I don't think Frank is super-popular either.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 31/01/2020 19:23

I LOVE Erica. My favourite of your boys names is Jesse.

Narcheska · 31/01/2020 19:27

Esther or Gwyneth (I'm Jewish but half welsh so they speak to me Grin)

I love Levi but I think it's more associated with jeans rather than being an traditional Jewish name.

Eric is lovely

cptartapp · 31/01/2020 19:39

Erica is fantastic. Love Esther too.
Not keen on your boys names.
How about Evan?

AlliKaneErikson · 31/01/2020 22:10

Aw, my Gran was Gwynneth so I’ve got a soft spot for that (haven’t heard of any young ones recently). I really like Jesse.

user1493494961 · 01/02/2020 15:27

Sorry, I don't like any of them apart from Jesse. Like Jessica also.

eomma · 01/02/2020 15:59

camilla and levi.

17caterpillars1mouse · 01/02/2020 20:32

Gwyneth nn Gwynnie (GGM's name, also means blessing) - I really like Gyneth, it's classy, well known but unexpected. Not as keen on nn but will assuming it would be a family nn which is fine

Winifred nn Winnie (another GGM, also means blessing) - love Winifred but probably a hard name to pull off as a teenager

Camilla (free born and noble. Also huntress, we are a sporty couple) - not a fan, prefer Camille

Nasya (Hebrew, I am half Jewish, blessing or miracle. Worried this is a bit out there as we have a very British surname) - not sure how to say it, but I don't like it from the way it looks /how I think it is pronounced

Erica (eternal ruler, powerful - it can be German and I do have a German connection) - pretty but not my style

Esther (Hebrew again, star) - like ve it. Really like the nn Essie

I really like John and Jonathan

Frank (German, means free and brave, but I worry it's a little overused) - dislike, though I love Francis which could be nn to Frank

Jessie/ Jesse (apparently means blessing) - not a fan

Levi (Hebrew, little heart which I think is really sweet) - not a fan

Emil (German connection, means excellent) - like

I also like Eric which as above means ever ruler or mighty, how can I connect that to my meanings?! grin - dislike Eric
