French boys' names that are easy to pronounce

I am expecting a baby in June and I'm really stuck for boys names.

I already have a little boy called Raphael and I just can't think of another name I love as much.

I was very keen on Aubrey but I think it's being used for girls more and more and DH blows hot and cold on it.
I am of French origin and I'd like a name that reflects that and can be easily pronounced in French and English (and won't make his life unbearable in a West Yorkshire comprehensive....)

My husband likes Gabriel (but that would be 2 archangels) and Laszlo (would feel a bit funny as it's neither French nor English)
I like various unsuitable french names...Guillaume especially.

Please help! I'd love to read your suggestions.

Guillaume is great, or how about Guy.
Pascal
Simon.
Louis.
Charles.
David

Havelock my thoughts exactly but Laszlo is in France's top 100 names for last year.

The ease with which English people can pronounce the name is a top criteria... Hence having to discount all the most beautiful names! What's left just feels so staid and the sort of names my parents' generation would have...

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone... I know I'm being impossible. Florent/Florian, Gauthier, Émile/Emilien, Sylvain have all already been vetoed by DH. We thought about Xavier for a bit but I just don't love it.

I absolutely love Aloïs but it's the name of a cousin I don't much like. I think I could get past that if DH liked it....

Some nice French boys’ names can sound quite feminine in English if kids want to tease. Olivier will become Olivia. Laurent will become Lauren, etc.

RomaineCalm · 30/01/2020 20:38

I like Gabriel from your list - and Rafe and Gabe work well as shortened versions.

Others I like are Benoit, Laurent, Claude, Theodore, Francois, Luc, Marc, Christophe.

winterchills · 30/01/2020 20:42

I like Valentin on your list!

UncleHerbie · 30/01/2020 20:42

René?

I think people know that Remy is a boy's name - it's the name of the rat in Ratatouille! (And I mean that as a positive!) I think it's great.

SundayMorningSun · 30/01/2020 20:44

The French/English family I know has Edward and Thomas.

SittingAround1 · 30/01/2020 20:48

Vincent (nicer sounding in French than in English)
Bastien
Maxime
Samuel
Fabrice
Olivier
Jules
Yves

I don't think anyone would notice Raphael and Gabriel as two angels, and you could always go with Sebastian as the rabbit won't be around forever!

BlankTimes · 30/01/2020 21:24

Thibault, Gilles (nn Gilou) or Benoit for me.

French boy names sounding like girl names in English, please avoid Michel.

Stravapalava · 30/01/2020 21:27

I love Pascal.

Claude?

7dayslater · 30/01/2020 21:28

BlankTimes · 30/01/2020 21:40

Claude, spoken in French, heard by English kids can be used as a taunt, 'Clod.' slang for stupid, thick Sad

MadameF · 30/01/2020 21:50

Not Luc. If he is with other French kids they will mock him because of what it spells in reverse. Lucas is better,

Clément
Gabriel
Baptiste
Gabin
Romain
Axel
Mathéo
Malo
Ethan
Nathan
Louis
Camille

Are all names of my DS's friends
Pascal, Olivier, Philippe, Claud etc are démodé in France at the moment but that won't matter in the UK

mamansnet · 30/01/2020 22:03

Shame about Sylvain, it's one of my favourites ok I'm married to one and apparently means Man of the Forest Grin

As for the cousin you dislike, I'd use the name anyway as then it will become associated with someone you love, and you won't think of the cousin every time you hear it!

Henlie · 30/01/2020 22:08

What about Dominic?

Dumbledoresgirl · 30/01/2020 22:12

I always wanted a reason to call a son Emanuel. I think it goes well with Raphael too.

chillied · 30/01/2020 22:18

Just rename the rabbit

user1465129342 · 30/01/2020 22:22
