Is Zadie a proper name? When looking it up you seem to get Zadie Smith who apparently changed her name from Sadie. I've always loved Sadie but I quite like Zadie too. Is it in the realms of made up names?

No

sel2223 · 30/01/2020 19:05

I prefer Sadie

Howtotrainyourhamster · 30/01/2020 19:49

Think it means grandad in Yiddish.
So would probably avoid on that basis.

Whatsyourflava · 30/01/2020 20:31

I love Sadie! How about you call her Sadie on bc but have zadie as the nickname

NightsOfCabiria · 30/01/2020 20:36

I always think of it as a dog’s name as I’ve known two Alsatians called Sadie.

DramaAlpaca · 30/01/2020 22:22

Zadie is fine. I prefer it to Sadie.

ikeakia · 01/02/2020 16:15

Zadie is nicer than Sadie, I can only ever see the word Sad in Sadie personally.

It’s still easy to say and pronounce so there’s nothing to trip up there either.

ikeakia · 01/02/2020 16:16

Spell not say. Grin

Crockof · 01/02/2020 16:20

As in white teeth? Didn't know it was made up, I like it.

Strugglingtoquit · 01/02/2020 18:07

I really like Sadie, I’m not sure about Zadie

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 01/02/2020 18:10

CassandrasCastle · 01/02/2020 18:12

I think Zadie is a great name! (Also - Zadie Smith; amazing woman.) It was on my list but DP wasn't so keen

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 01/02/2020 23:41

It's a made up name..but if you like it 🤷‍♀️

PlantPotting · 01/02/2020 23:42
