Lila Madeleine
Lila Genevieve

I don’t think Briar flows that well with any of the names you suggest, except perhaps Valentina, but I like Briar Genevieve and Briar Madeleine.

Middle names are never used, and I don't even have one. I would choose a name with the most meaning to you, mayos family name?

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 29/01/2020 16:04

Martine and Janine are family name options but I am on the fence about honor names as I feel like the in law side of the family that we dont honor would take offense. I feel middle names change the vibe of the first name so its important to me to find the right name combo. But my husband thinks middle names are pointless as well!!

Lila Genevieve and Lila Madeleine are beautiful names.

Not keen on any of the others.

OakElmAsh · 29/01/2020 16:51

Is that Briar as in the prickly thorny plants growing in hedgerows ?

I like Lila Madeleine

DramaAlpaca · 29/01/2020 17:36

In Ireland if you call someone a 'briar' it means they are being grumpy and bad tempered, named after the prickly plant with thorns. I don't like it at all for that reason.

Lila Genevieve or Lila Madeleine are OK, but I don't think of Lila as a very strong name.

FoamingAtTheUterus · 29/01/2020 17:38

I know of a Briar Anise. I think it ties together really well.

IVflytrap · 29/01/2020 18:27

Faves are Lila Genevieve and Briar Martine.

Much prefer Briar over Lila. Lila is nice, but with Lily, Lilly, Lillian, Lilah, Lyla etc being popular, I think it will seem a bit generic.

The meaning of Briar got discussed in another thread recently. Where I am, a briar is specifically a thorny wild rose.

I would use Genevieve or Madeleine as a first name, both far nicer than Lila or Briar.

Farmgrl1111 · 29/01/2020 18:40

Use Genevieve or Madeleine as a first name

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 29/01/2020 22:07

I've always liked Lila but it needs a graceful yet uncommon middle name.

I've taken a liking to Briar recently but do not know what to pair with it. Not Rose!

Just wondering what sounds good. I have other names on my list so these may not even be used but when i add names to my list i have a fascination of knowing what middle name I'd use if we decide we like the first name!

To me Genevieve and Madeleine are middle names because I dislike the nicknames Jen and Maddie.

I live in the states and the word Briar isnt used for any slang term here. It is a thorny wild rose but not a word you will hear much. I think it's kinda pretty as a name. I like the imagery I guess.

Briar Rose is the name given for sleeping beauty in the Brothers Grimm tale.

I've never heard it used as a slang term either.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 29/01/2020 23:21

That's why I said not ok to pair Briar with Rose - too Sleeping Beauty! Plus I dont like plant/nature names together anyway. Her name kinda made no sense!

Love Briar.

Lila is meh. So many Lila, Lily, Lillian.

Briar Madeleine works the best for me.

Dyra · 29/01/2020 23:44

There's a series of books by Tamora Pierce where one of the characters is called Briar Moss. Unfortunately he's a guy, so for that reason, I think Briar is more of a boy's name. Even if it is a rose.

I really quite like Lila Madeline. Flows nicely to me and sounds pretty to boot.

TatianaLarina · 29/01/2020 23:46

I’ve only ever come across female Briars.

StCharlotte · 29/01/2020 23:49

Hmm. I assumed Briar was a boy's name. Shows what I know.

FoamingAtTheUterus · 29/01/2020 23:51

Or Briar Evangeline. 🤔

Wheresthebiffer2 · 29/01/2020 23:53

StCharlotte, you're thinking of Brian. lol

meandmylot · 29/01/2020 23:59

What @diddlediddle said

StCharlotte · 30/01/2020 00:31

Wheresthebiffer2 You're probably right Grin

Actually I never realised Briar was a name at all!

OnABeachSomewhere · 30/01/2020 01:28

Lila Madeleine
Briar Valentina

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 30/01/2020 01:36

Briar is one of those names you either like or dislike! Which I guess makes me question it but I feel like those who like it actually really love it. With the right middle nsme I feel it could get a lot of compliments!

Lila is pretty but it's gotten quite common. I still like it but I'm looking for a beautiful middle name for it that is less commonplace.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 30/01/2020 01:38

I love Briar Evangeline but Evangeline is my god daughter's name so I feel it's off limits even as a middle name. I could just do Eve or Everly or Angeline 🤔
