Alexandra

Hi, I'm considering Alexandra for a girl, with Lexie or Alex as a possible nn. However, I'm worried it's too close to Alexa - the ai?? I don't want to cause her problems as she's growing up. I have an unusual name and it has plagued me my whole life.

I love Alexandra! Just don't shorten it to Alexa...

NoSauce · 22/01/2020 07:00

I think Alexandra is beautiful. But I’m not keen on Alex or Lexie. How about Allie? I saw someone suggest that the other day and really liked it.

catinb0oots · 22/01/2020 07:00

I'm an Alexandra nn Ally and I like my name! Grin

Blackbear19 · 22/01/2020 07:07

Go for it, classic name!

If she does end up confusing Alexa change its name to something else.

kittlesticks · 22/01/2020 07:11

I have a baby Alexandra, nn Ali. Gorgeous name although I am very biased! Congratulations 🥳

gwilt · 22/01/2020 07:13

Wonderful. Timeless Smile

CountFosco · 22/01/2020 07:15

Quick warning, DC have a friend Alex and when they talk about him Alexa starts listening. Love love love the name Alexandra though.

Boireannachlaidir · 22/01/2020 07:24

Love it Smile

diddlediddle · 22/01/2020 09:51

It's a completely different name to Alexa. And it's lovely and timeless 👍🏼

fizzyheart · 22/01/2020 10:17

Ahh, thanks ladies. I didn't know you could change Alexa's name, so that's a good option!

I really like it, very classic and timeless. I really like Lexie as a nickname but like that it has other options as well

timetest · 22/01/2020 11:49

I really like it.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 22/01/2020 11:54

I am very close to an Alexandra and she is forever getting called Alexander.

Its bloody infuriating - its not even like Alexandra is some brand new name either.

But it is a lovely name.

Just don't go spelling it Alexaindria to make it more girly Wink

ToftheB · 22/01/2020 12:20

It's a lovely name - and my DD's middle name. I like Alex as a shortening, but one of the good things about it is there's lots of options and your DD could choose whichever one she wanted.

SoftBlocks · 22/01/2020 12:22

Love it. Alex is a good nn.

marmitecheesetoast · 22/01/2020 13:45

Lovely name!

TatianaLarina · 23/01/2020 14:44

Love. Lexi is grim though.

BettyUnderswoob · 23/01/2020 18:10

Wonderful name, strong and elegant!

I have an Alexandra. She’s Ali at home, Alexandra at work and Alex to her friends. Never been confused with Alexa or Alexander, and never been called Lexi.

bridgetreilly · 23/01/2020 18:44

I don't think you can just change Alexa's name to whatever you want. I think it's 'Alexa' or "Amazon", "Echo" or "Computer". And at other people's houses, it'll be Alexa.

However, I don't think that rules out Alexandra. There's a different emphasis in the name and there are plenty of possible nicknames that aren't Alexa or Alex.
