Thoughts on these boys names...

Hi,

I have posted before. Asking thoughts on the names rowan, sonny and shay. So i thought it was definetly going to be one of those.
Husband has now gone off these names!! 🙈 even though sonny was his suggestion!.... He now wants something a bit less popular. I dont really mind about popularity just would like to find something we can finally agree on, which is proving impossible. I dont think he actually likes any boys names.

Anyway here are the few he has come up with, that i think are ok.
I love the name Elliot but he point blank refused, doesn't like it at all. ☹

Calvin (not sure about it, i like cal though)

Brandon ( one of our favourite films is the goonies) but again not sure.

Xander ( dont want Alexander as my dad is alex)

Orson (like it but think sounds alot like arson and might get called arse)

I think Ashden is the best of your list although I think your DS would be continually correcting people assuming it's Ashton.

How about Caelan or Cooper?

I really like Calvin and Orson! Great strong names.

I also like Torben and Quentin.

I actually really like Calvin nickname Cal

Orson is nice too I think. Definitely unusual I’d have thought though I’ve not checked the stats

Other less used names: Barnaby, Otto, Angus

Don’t know if they’re of any interest, probably names you’ve already discounted

Clive and Clarence are both also really rare
Are on all the lists of names that are about to go extinct.

just imagine your darling little wriggler in 50 yrs time as a high court judge, his honour judge sonny surname.
doesn't quite cut it, does it.
the point I'm trying to make is that in reality having one of these arty or eccentric quirky names may impact adversely on your son's chances of getting preferment in any prestigious / serious profession.
I would suggest try to go for classic solid names, many of which can be shortened to a more informal nickname in family circles, if wished while they are little.
sonny; do you think such a name is more, or less likely to get pupillage in barristers' chambers, or solicitors' articles, or in-house training for an auditor.
name the child for his best interests, his life-long prospects, nor for some whim of the moment, something you like the sound of.

You do realise that Sonny is a top 100 baby name now. As are names like Albie and Hunter and Luna (infact those are top 50 I think and in the rise). There’s going to be a lot of lawyers and doctors with those names in 20+ years!
Anyway no point us discussing this name further as OP has said it’s been vetoed anyway.

I like Xander and Ash. How about Eric or Tristan?

Ps. barristers chambers and other large workplaces are starting to anonymise CVs (removing name, gender and nationality) to make selection for interviews more impartial. I think various accountancy firms like EY have started rolling this process out too. I imagine it will be much more common in 50 years.

I like Calvin and Brandon. I wouldn't use Xander without having Alexander as the "official" name.

Elliot - ok, but will get Eliot/Elliott spellings, I think it's nice but a bit nothingy

Ashden - Ashton is a better spelling. Will be Ash. Not keen.

High Court judges have all sort of names. The last time I looked they included names like Terry and Brenda.
Not many people end up high court judges.

They should remove age too ...bet they don't! My friend who is over 50 has a perfect career history and since being made redundant is turned away from job after job. Anyway sorry not thread related..

Surprised Sonny is so popular.. i thought it was a dog's name! It reminds me of the mad spaniel the in-laws have named Sonny!

I had Elliott on my list in the beginning but DH said no way. I would opt for that or Xander out of your list. Or someone suggested Xavier..that's a nice name.

I know an Orson. It's a good name.

Im not keen on any of the names on your list except Elliot! However, I am sure your baby will be gorgeous, so ignore me and have the name you both like best.

@BooseysMom that’s a very good point about age. I’m going to look into whether they do this as I have a couple of friends that work at rolling this all out for some companies.

I don't think any of these names are very unusual or out there just less common/popular.

I like Elliot best too, i will keep trying with it and in the meantime see if any of the other names grow on me x

I love Cal. The only one I know is just Cal, not short for anything.

I would spell ashden this way rather than Ashton as it is a place in manchester. And we live in greater manchester.
will run them past him although id be very suprised if he likes any!
