What does everyone think of the name Marliya? And Hope for a middle name. So Marliya Hope? (Pronounced Mar-lee-a) want the M initial for a first name and last name is W. Suggestions welcome. Thank you.

Oh I like it.

latheritup · 17/01/2020 23:31

Love!

PsychosonicCindy · 17/01/2020 23:43

I don't mind it, it's better spelt Malia though imo.

BeardieWeirdie · 18/01/2020 01:00

Awful spelling. Go with Malia, like the Obamas.

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 18/01/2020 01:03

It's pretty, I think you should go with the spelling suggested by pps as she'll forever be saying "Marliya with an r and a y" coming from a daughter who has cursed been cursed with "it's a y not an I"

OwlBeThere · 18/01/2020 02:00

I think the trouble would be in some accents that R would be pronounced. I’d go with with Malia or Maliya. Unless you want the R pronounced of course!

OwlBeThere · 18/01/2020 02:03

Oh wait...the Obama’s daughter is Ma-LEE-uh isn’t she? Is that the way you mean? I was thinking MAH-lee-uh like the Greek town.

bridgetreilly · 18/01/2020 10:19

Malia. Much nicer.

AudacityOfHope · 18/01/2020 10:20

I really like the sound but not the spelling.

IckleBear · 18/01/2020 14:07

Malia

WilsonandNoodles · 19/01/2020 08:46

I'm not familiar with the name so from someone who would be guessing from your spelling I would pronounce it Mar-lee-ya, very similar to how you say its pronounced. It sounds pretty but strobg to me.
If I was saying Malia I would say Mal-i-a like the place my year 13s are all going for a messy holiday after their A levels.

For me its definitely your spelling I would be choosing.

Happyandglorious · 19/01/2020 14:22

If its spelt Malia it could be pronounced M'lia or Maalia
I would say Marliya like Marley but with an 'a' on the end.
Not esp helpful but my 2 Penny's worth. Think it's a nice unusual pretty name

daisypond · 19/01/2020 15:06

No, it’s weird with the Y. Do you mean Malia? Maybe Marlia.

Ariela · 19/01/2020 15:18

You will get people older that mis-read it as Marilya as Marilyn is a more common name using those letters

TatianaLarina · 19/01/2020 15:33

Why an i and a y? You don’t need both. It looks a bit illiterate.
