Hello, expecting baby #5 (sex unknown) and a bit stuck for names!

We’re Catholic and so far our pattern has been fairly “classic” but not too popular first name + saint’s name (usually a bit more unusual) + family name.

If this one’s a boy, we’re pretty set on Ignatius Paul for the middle names. First name ideas so far: Samuel/Samson (which), Robin, Oliver (too popular?), Isaac, Julian.

Totally stuck for girls! We’ve had three girls already so feel like so many good names are already taken. I quite fancy Fidelma for the saint’s name (Irish), but husband is less sure and it is pretty unusual. Family name could be Jane, Mary or Iris. Any ideas for first names? Our current daughters are Ellen/Nell, Orla and Daphne, we quite like Bethan or Betsan but we’re not remotely Welsh, would that be strange? Otherwise we do like Emma, Sophie, Cate, Lucy/Lucia, Freya, Phoebe... but they all feel a bit uninspiring, maybe I’ve just got naming fatigue after so many girls.

Love to hear any thoughts and suggestions, thank you.

Boys: Jeremy, Benjamin, Lucas, Aiden (and I like all of your list too)

Girls: Catherine, Tess, Verity, (and I really like Phoebe from your list).

Congrats! How about

Quentin or Clara?

MopsRUs · 17/01/2020 07:21

I like Samson and Julian. They're both solid names but a little quirky too.

For a girl how about Cecilia, Francesca, Josephine, Lucy, Gemma, Chiara?

MopsRUs · 17/01/2020 07:22

Oops, you've already ruled out Lucy!

notaregularmom · 17/01/2020 07:27

Nadine
Catherine
Jemima
Sophia
Edie

Love Phoebe and Lucia from your list. I think Leah was sister of Ruth. Could be wrong but love that name. Also Sophia was a martyr (only know that as priest said it when DD was being christened)

Lavenderblues · 17/01/2020 08:15

I like your suggestions of Lucia and Julian.

Also like the suggestions of Quentin (especially for a fifth!), and Josephine.

Flissmoon · 17/01/2020 08:41

We’ve discussed Quentin/Quinn for the meaning but unfortunately I really don’t like the “Qu” sound!

Cecilia and Tess are lovely but we’ve already used those or variants in the girls’ middle names.

Verity, Francesca and Josephine are lovely, thank you!

Samuel/Samson, Robin, Oliver, Isaac, Julian.

These are all lovely names except Julian which is a bit wet

Urkiddingright · 17/01/2020 10:47

My friend is Bethan and she isn’t remotely Welsh either, it’s a lovely name. I love Iris too. Boys wise I’m a fan of Oliver despite its popularity and I like Julian.

MrsBertBibby · 17/01/2020 12:59

Boys : Conrad, Robert, Torin. Isaac is best of your list.

Girls : Nina, Edith, Tamsin, Bryony. Bethan's nice enough.

Verity is also very nice.

MrsBertBibby · 17/01/2020 13:00

Don't go for Tamsin Fidelma Iris though! Lovely names all, but the initials!!
