Will be a brother to Charles, what do we think? Two months to go and really struggling. I think I like it but don't love it.

Love it!

Yellowcakestand · 16/01/2020 22:22

My brother has changed his name to Seamus.

I work with an Irish Seamus.

I don't like the full name but the guy I work with calls himself Se (pronounced Shay), which I do like.

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 16/01/2020 22:23

Sounds too much like semen

No it doesn’t. Seamus starts with a Sh sound, has an “aim” sound in the middle and ends with “us”

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 16/01/2020 22:27

Cillmantain

Love it but I am biased as an Irish woman

I had the best summer holidays as a child in Wicklow! Brilliant memories.

CallofDoodee · 16/01/2020 22:28

Sounds too much like semen

It's sounds nothing like semen 😂

happycamper11 · 16/01/2020 22:29

To me it sounds like a sturdy faithful old pony or perhaps a pirate at a stretch (one of the skivvys not like captain hook or anything) 😬

happycamper11 · 16/01/2020 22:31

Shay is a great nickname

I've known a few Shay's. All girls!

LolaLollypop · 16/01/2020 22:31

It reminds me of a greying old Irish man. My friend called her unborn baby Seamus as a joke whilst pregnant (they didn't knowbthus sex at the time) but when he was born they went with Samuel. Much better!!

TurduckenFucken · 16/01/2020 22:31

I really like it. Whilst you’re getting all woolly jumper handsome, what about Hamish?

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 16/01/2020 22:31

Captain Seamus Hook. Grin

James sometimes gets nicknamed Seamus or shamy here.

ThePackAlpha · 16/01/2020 22:32

Yay- Its a very Irish sounding name, I just think its lovely.

Bedroomdilemma · 16/01/2020 22:34

I think it’s lovely with the connection to Heaney, it’s always nice when there’s a story behind a name. I quite like Seamus, and definitely like Sé/Shay. Know a 4 year old Seamus, maybe it’s making a come back!

MrsBobDylan · 16/01/2020 22:35

Love it, fabulous name.

LittleDragonGirl · 16/01/2020 22:35

If you like Seamus go for it!
I actually happen to know quite a few young Seamus' (although with a few variations to its spelling) all under 30, so I would disagree with it being a old persons name, and worse case it can be shortened to Shay which is lovely!

Ihaveamind · 16/01/2020 22:38

I'm Irish, in Ireland and know two young boys called Seamus. I think it might depend where you are how old fashioned it is.
I guess if your in England it can't be old fashioned as it was never new fashioned!
I really like it but I fancied a boy in the Gaeltacht called Seamie so I'm biased Grin

MrsP2015 · 16/01/2020 22:51

It's vile sorry.

What other choices have you got?

Bluerussian · 16/01/2020 23:18

It's nice, doesn't it mean James only in 'Irish'? I think you need a classy surname to go with it and only you whether or you have but I do like it.
I like Irish names generally - Sean, Ciaran, Gerard, Kian and loads of pretty girls names - Siobhan, Maeve, Sinead.

june2007 · 16/01/2020 23:25

Yes it,s fine.

Astronica · 17/01/2020 00:00

I really like it.

Chienloup · 17/01/2020 00:04

It's a lovely strong name, and your reason for choosing it makes it more special.

turnedabout · 17/01/2020 00:07

Seamus is the Irish equivalent of James.

It's a yes from me OP!

TheGoatIsHere · 17/01/2020 00:08

My brother in law is a Seamus (from Donegal) - always gets called Shay by everyone unless he's getting told off! Love the name.

claptomania · 17/01/2020 00:09

Opportunity missed to title this post Yay-mas or Nay-mas IMO

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 17/01/2020 00:13

I like it... has a soft, cuddly feel
My Seamus is certainly soft and cuddly. He is a Labrador though. An Irish Labrador mind. Grin

catlady3 · 17/01/2020 00:14

I think it's gorgeous and works as a cute name for a baby but also a serious name for a grown up. Was in the running for the baby we're expecting.
