We have to names our son next week. We can’t chose between Oliver , Rudy and Dylan. Opinions please! 🙂

They're all nice!

I'm sure people will tell you Oliver is too common (most popular boys name however many years in a row etc etc)

But I think that's my favourite of the 3 Smile

Whynosnowyet · 11/01/2020 18:13

Dylan unless you love Ollie and Rudy isn't my cup of tea. Rude Rudy.....

Zoflorabore · 11/01/2020 18:14

When I was pregnant with ds ( 17 in March so born in 2003 ) I had 2 boys names- Oliver and Dylan Smile and we went with Oliver NN Ollie. He really suits his name and often asks for more....

devilishlygood · 11/01/2020 18:25

I have a Rudy...so I’m biased!! But Dylan was my second choice, and it only lost out because our surname has Ls and Ys that made Dylan a little tongue twistery

Ellmau · 11/01/2020 18:56

Oliver.

PlantPotting · 11/01/2020 19:02

Oh wow you have amazing taste I really love all 3!!!

HettytheHoover · 11/01/2020 19:07

Rudy.

Refreshingly different. Nicknames like Rude Rudy could occur for any reason tbh

PlantPotting · 11/01/2020 19:24

Yeh a name like Rudy isn’t startlingly unusual these days. It’s a bit different but if you’re going to get teased I highly doubt it’d be based on your name (whether it’s Oliver... Rudy... or even Fox or Wolf)

Lavenderblues · 11/01/2020 20:03

OMG not Rudy - it sounds like a rude-y!

I like Dylan. Oliver is overused.

PlantPotting · 11/01/2020 20:12

Rudy isn’t that shocking these days @Lavenderblues - it’s entered the mainstream and has increased from being outside the top 1000 names to being number 271 and is on the increase! There’s a Rudy at my daughters school and a friend of a friend had a Rudi (both boys) x

cptartapp · 11/01/2020 20:17

Rudy is dreadful, the one I know gets teased. Dylan is, dare I say a naughty boy's name round here, so popular as it is I'd go Oliver.

yikesanotherbooboo · 11/01/2020 21:03

I have a soft spot for Dylan. I'm a bit tired of Oliver and think Rudy carries a risk in that the little boy has to 'carry it off'.
Purely my personal opinion!

Thefaceofboe · 11/01/2020 21:16

Rudy is my favourite. I hate Dylan and I don’t know why. Oliver is common but I do like it... I know 6 Olivers under 5

PlantPotting · 11/01/2020 21:19

Impossible to predict who will get teased. There was a girl at my school with surname Dick- no teasing. But Abigail was constantly teased and called “Abi National Bank”

SaorsaSolasta · 11/01/2020 21:23

My favourite is Dylan, also like Oliver. Not keen on Rudy

Grufallisfriends · 11/01/2020 21:32

Rudy is awful! And full name Rudolph not any better...

I'd choose Dylan.

Grufallisfriends · 11/01/2020 21:34

Rudy is so teasable as it sounds like Rude-y, someone rude! The opposite of Nicey Grin

miamiibiza · 11/01/2020 21:38

Rudy definitely

poppydaisys · 11/01/2020 21:38

Oliver is so overused imo, it's a little dull.

Rudy is awful, sorry.

Dylan is quite nice.

Gogolego · 11/01/2020 21:43

In order of preference
1)Oliver
2) Dylan
3) Rudy

But it was a close call between Oliver and Dylan

lopdedop · 12/01/2020 00:59

Great names, all of them. My favourite is Rudy. I know one, grown up, he spells it with an I though. He's really cool, and loves his name.

Jossina · 12/01/2020 03:28

Either Oliver or Dylan. Please not Rudy unless it's a nickname.

poppydaisys · 12/01/2020 08:54

I know an older Rudolph who hates the nickname Rudy so is generally known by his full name.

Flymetothestars · 12/01/2020 09:17

I love all 3 names

Favourites are Oliver and Rudy. Closely followed by Dylan

Chocolatecake12 · 12/01/2020 09:29

My almost 18 yr old is Oliver so I vote for that. It’s a great Name and has a nice nn!
My second choice if yours would be Dylan but I know a Dylan who get called Dyls as a nn and I don’t like that.
