Did I mis-hear?

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 09/01/2020 21:46

My dd was playing in the park with another little girl.
Her adult called her "irania " never heard that as a name before
Said exactly like Iranian, for a person who comes from Iran

Ih-rain-ee-ah
Have I mis-heard a name? Or is it a name I have not come across before?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Sorry, missed a bit.
Iranian, but without the n on the end

Right...?

StealthPolarBear · 09/01/2020 21:49

Maybe it wasn't her parent and they struggled to pronounce irina

slipperywhensparticus · 09/01/2020 21:49

I've never heard that name either

Tartyflette · 09/01/2020 21:51

Ireña? Spanish?
Would be pronounced Ee-rain-ya or ih-rain-ya.

SpinjitzuMaster · 09/01/2020 21:52

Arani or Arania is an Indian name - could it be that? Its pronunciation is similar to your description

Krazynights34 · 09/01/2020 21:52

Had to google it. But it is a girl’s name

TheVanguardSix · 09/01/2020 21:53

You probably heard Rania.

BackforGood · 09/01/2020 21:58

I regulalry come across names I've not heard before meeting that person.
Not sure what your question is.
Why do you think you mis-heard ?

iklboo · 09/01/2020 22:01

I don't get the problem?

leghairdontcare · 09/01/2020 22:02

I don't rule out anything when it comes to names. I had similar last week as I heard a name as Ariana and after a few times I realised that the little girls name was Ivy-Anna.

TheReluctantCountess · 09/01/2020 22:03

It’s quite nice.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 09/01/2020 22:05

No problem.
Trying to work out the little girl's name.
She was a lovely kid, played with dd for ages .
Don't want to look a total muppet asking around for "irania" if her name is likely to be something different.

If her name has a lot of vowels then I'm sure they're used to having it mispronounced...

IVflytrap · 10/01/2020 00:07

Aurelia, but with a cold? Grin

iklboo · 10/01/2020 12:58

Oops just realised I posted on the wrong thread! Makes me look like I was having a go at you when I wasn't. Sorry! Blush

Lavenderblues · 10/01/2020 13:08

I also thought Ireña.

LionelRitchieStoleMyNotebook · 10/01/2020 14:34

I work with an Ireña (Ih rai nyah)

NearlyAMumma · 10/01/2020 17:22

That is so pretty I may steal it for my list
