Hello! We are expecting DC2 soon, we don't know the sex. We really loved the name we picked for DS1 who is half Indian/half English as there is a clear nod to his Indian heritage in it.

I've done some research (mainly on Hindu and Sikh names that sound a bit crossover) and these are what I like so far but I'm not bowled over by any of them and DH definitely isn't, ha!

Anyone have any further suggestions, or views on the names below? If so please share! Thanks x

And I know an Annita of Indian ethnicity and love it

@Lordfrontpaw the surname is English, but they will have singh/kaur as their middle name as my family are Sikh

@Poorolddaddypig oh no, I found Bodhi here: www.babble.com/baby-name-articles/indian-boy-names/ and thought it might be in the same vein as Modi (as in Narendra Modi 😬), and Dylan (which isn't really a first name, in punjabi anyway, but the punjabi surname Dhillon).

I suppose it needs to ‘go with’ the surname - are there any family names that you would like to use? Or go off piste with a name that can be used in both places (or anywhere else’s) Joe, Zac...

I know two families of mixed Indian/English heritage.

Their children are Rohan, Eliza and Aydan.

I love Tariq as the character with that name in Spooks was gorgeous, imo

Settlersofcatan · 11/01/2020 14:02

Ashni
Roshni
Meera

Ashwin
Samir

PetraRabbit · 11/01/2020 23:20

Mira /Meera is better than Mila because it's less of a typical top 30 kind of name.
Bodhi is really trendy in an American kind of way and will date terribly- don't pick that.

I’ve found that it’s not unusual for people from India and Pakistan to use Persian names - Layla, Ava, Arya, Sam/Saam, Dana, Maryam - classical names and not religious. I’ve met older Indians who were taught Farsi at school so I guess there’s a link there.
