New name for baby girl 🙄

We were settled and so happy with the name Dulcie-Mae Reign for our 3rd baby, 2nd daughter but I told my cousin who had a baby girl last week once we’d decided. She has now named her daughter Dolly Mae, so we can no longer use the name Dulcie-Mae as they are very similar. I should’ve learnt after I told everyone the name of my first daughter before she was born and a friend used the middle name as a first name. But the kids are now besties so it’s quite cute Isabella Ivy and Ivy Mabel. Anyone have any ideas for a new name for her as we can’t find one we love as much as Dulcie 💖 thanks huns

It's bloody awful and common (as in used by commoners rather than common as in popular

Are you a member of the royal family or aristocracy, TokenGinger? If not, you're a commoner too, as are the vast majority of people on mumsnet. At least get your terminology right when trying to be superior.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 02/01/2020 11:12

Oh I don't like Dulcie but I quite like Dolcie (the 'u' would sound crap with my accent, that's why).

Dolcie Raine is cute. Or could you not use Raine as the first name?

MikeUniformMike · 02/01/2020 11:13

I don't like Dulcie - I hear Dull, but Dolly is nice.
Mae is a bit downmarket and overused as a middle name, and if a name is hyphenated it always seems to be -Mae or -May.
Reign is an odd choice of spelling.
Mae Reign - it may rain?

Jayneisagirlsname · 02/01/2020 11:23

Dulcie Raine is lovely. Not everyone will like it but who cares if you love it. Congratulations

NoSauce · 02/01/2020 11:26

Yeah right.

diddlediddle · 02/01/2020 11:35

Sack off Mae it's naff, she's done you a favour. Dulcie is lovely and not too similar to Dolly.

Hulagirla · 02/01/2020 13:05

I’d imagine that Dulcie and Dolly would hail from a council estate, have their ears pierced as tiny babies and get pregnant at 15.

Ellecrawford · 02/01/2020 13:31

I don't think it's bad. Just go for Dulcie Mae if u don't want to then just choose an alternative middle name for example- Dulcie Florence Mae surname. Still including the Mae.

redwoodmazza · 02/01/2020 13:52

Dulcie is sweet.
I don't like Reign - that looks like a mistake! I know a Raine though.

Tombliwho · 02/01/2020 20:43

Isn't Dolcie an old shoe shop?
I'm not keen but at least Dulcie is an actusl name.

MrsBertBibby · 03/01/2020 04:02

Dolcis was the shoe shop.

Taddda · 03/01/2020 04:12

Along the same lines as your choice, why not 'Rainey'?

JonnyPocketRocket · 03/01/2020 04:18

@Hulagirla don't hold back, tell us all what you really think Hmm
OP Dulcie is lovely. I would spell Reign differently, though, as Rain or Raine.

Taddda · 03/01/2020 04:30

@JonnyPocketRocket Grin I saw someone post 'sounds like a drag queen' on one of these the other day, I thought it was a lovely name!- everyones got an opinion huh (shame they have no filter though!)

JolieOBrien · 03/01/2020 04:48

Isn't Dulcie the name of an old actress .... Dulcie Gray is her full name.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dulcie_Gray

SnorkMaiden81 · 03/01/2020 04:51

Dulcie Rae?

JolieOBrien · 03/01/2020 04:54

Has anyone read the book Dulcima by H E Bates? That is a variation of the name.

Littlefoxy · 03/01/2020 06:41

Someone else suggested Dulcie Wren which I was going to suggest. It’s so unusual and pretty.

user1480880826 · 03/01/2020 07:19

Reign is not a name. It is the period of rule of a monarch.

Hyphenated names are absolutely awful so I’m glad you’re dropping Mae. You’ve just saved your daughter from a lifetime of being pitied.

CustomerCervixDepartment · 03/01/2020 13:00

‘Thanks huns’ Hmm
I think we’re being goaded...

NoSauce · 03/01/2020 13:36

Me too CustomerCervixDepartment ( nice name btw Wink ) surprised at the many posters that don’t.
