I saw this name on a TV credits and sort of like it. Around here Annabelle is very popular so a bit different ?

I think it's very pretty. Mirabel is nice too.

mathanxiety · 01/01/2020 21:12

It's not 'American South' or made up.

It's a popular name in Puerto Rico and US PR communities.

TatianaLarina · 01/01/2020 21:24

I like both Maribel and Mirabel (the latter slightly more).

Ihaveamind · 01/01/2020 21:30

I really like it and had a vague Spanish association when I saw it first so glad a PP confirmed that for me ☺️

pallisers · 01/01/2020 21:35

Ds had a friend called Marisol (also of spanish origin - shortened version of maria de las soledad I thing). I thought it was very pretty.

(completely off point here but this thread made me sad that there are so few varieties of potato in the supermarkets in the US - even the good supermarkets)

Love it

jamburglar · 01/01/2020 21:59

I agree with the babybel comment, first thing I thought of too. How about Marisol? Similar sounding, and unusual without being too out there

jamburglar · 01/01/2020 22:00

Oh sorry, already suggested! My new year's resolution should be RTFT

17caterpillars1mouse · 01/01/2020 22:01

I really like it

Whatsyourflava · 01/01/2020 23:17

I like Mabel

MerryMarigold · 02/01/2020 16:07

Marisa is Spanish and very pretty

FreckledLeopard · 02/01/2020 16:08

Mariel is a nice alternative - I love the actress Mariel Hemingway in Manhattan.

Maribel is very common in Spain (we live there). Most seem to be 40's and 50's though. I've never heard of anyone under 25 with the name. The DC have had a few teachers called Maribel, and our Estate Agent was also called Maribel.

SendTheRemotePlease · 02/01/2020 22:23

It's pn Marry-Bell.
