It's a girl's name fairly common in Scandinavia

Like the holidays for the over 50s?

Redshoeblueshoe · 30/12/2019 01:51

I thought it was holidays for over 60's
So that's a big no from me

Mrstwiddle · 30/12/2019 01:53

Please don’t.

DramaAlpaca · 30/12/2019 01:54

Fine if you live in Scandinavia.

Hiyuthere68 · 30/12/2019 01:54

I've never heard of saga holidays, is it well known amongst younger people?

OP posts:
HirplesWithHaggis · 30/12/2019 01:55

Yeah, over-50s holidays and other such associations. Or really long Norse mythology.

HirplesWithHaggis · 30/12/2019 01:56

Google "saga" and see the top results.

NotTheMrMenAgain · 30/12/2019 01:59

Saga is a company that provides financial services to people over 50 - so life insurance etc for old folks. Their TV adverts - on channels 'old folks' are likely to watch - are cringe-worthy and annoying in equal measure. So, there's that......

Saga also makes me think of a dull, boring and long-winded story or situation you wish would end (although I know that's not the actual meaning of the word!).

Hiyuthere68 · 30/12/2019 02:04

Understand the holiday connection but I think the name itself sounds so beautiful. Surely people will associate the name with DD rather than the holidays once they've met her?

DailyMailcanfuckthefuckoff · 30/12/2019 02:06

If it wasn't associated with over-50s insurance/holidays/etc., I would think it was rather nice. However, if you're in the UK I think you'd be hard-pressed to find someone that isn't aware of the Saga-oldies link!

nextdecade · 30/12/2019 02:09

She’ll constantly be asked if she was named after the holiday company if in the UK.

It’s like naming your child Tui or Trivago

Fwiw I really like it. It suited the character in the Bridge but I wouldn’t use it here

Discoballs · 30/12/2019 02:11

I'm thinking old people's holidays and also long winded, over dramatic stories

DramaAlpaca · 30/12/2019 02:11

It won't be pronounced properly in the UK.

stupidtabloidheadlines · 30/12/2019 02:14

It would help if your surname is Forsythe.

BerwickLad · 30/12/2019 02:15

Yeah the bridge.

StanleyWalkersThirdWife · 30/12/2019 02:15

I'm not too keen personally.

I like Sage though!

BerwickLad · 30/12/2019 02:18

Yeah that's a plant.

HirplesWithHaggis · 30/12/2019 02:23

"Sage" also means "wise". While "saga"... doesn't.

Redshoeblueshoe · 30/12/2019 02:31

Stupidtabloid Xmas Grin

HirplesWithHaggis · 30/12/2019 02:37

If it's not pronounced with a hard g, would "Sascha"/"Sasha" work?

alexdgr8 · 30/12/2019 02:40

surely you've heard of the most common usage, a long boring account of an unfortunate episode, eg did I tell you the saga of our washing machine repair; or the saga of the basement extension that led to the house collapsing....
all very negative.
also a company that targets the grey pound with overpriced products.

BastardGoDarkly · 30/12/2019 02:41

Oh shuddup.

People will not think... lovely Scandinavian name... they'll think over 50s holidays.

99bb · 30/12/2019 03:05

I thought this was going to be a thread about a lengthy process of deciding in a name... “the name saga”

GemmaJem · 30/12/2019 09:05

I love it! Are you a fan of The Bridge?

MopsRUs · 30/12/2019 09:09

Holidays. How about Sara?
