It's a girl's name fairly common in Scandinavia

Only if you promise to name her sibling Edda.

NoSquirrels · 30/12/2019 11:59

How is it supposed to be pronounced, OP?

In the UK, EVERYONE will say it Sar-gar/Sah-gah.

And think over-50s.

I really really wouldn’t unless you are Swedish yourself. You’ll be giving a name that will cause a DD endless grief every time they need to correct someone’s pronunciation, and listen to ‘jokes’ about it.

SAga Holidays, Aga Saga,s (isn,t that what they call the Joanna Trollop books.) So just No.

DameSylvieKrin · 30/12/2019 12:06

How about Sonnet?

DontCallMeShitley · 30/12/2019 12:10

My kitchen timer is made by Saga Form.

My pensioner neighbours get discounts on things by signing up with Saga, and yes, holidays.

I also think of very long and boring stories when I hear 'saga' (especially on MN where some of the threads go on and on and on and on...).

MaggieFS · 30/12/2019 12:10

If it's not the holidays, or a jokey/mean way of referring to people "old enough to be on a saga holiday" then it's a boring long winded drama "Betsy next door and the saga of her garage door".

It doesn't sound nice in English whichever way you look at it, IMHO

ILoveWelshCakes123 · 30/12/2019 12:16

It's a no from me. I've got car insurance with Saga #justturned50 😉

LittleBearPad · 30/12/2019 12:16

But it's pronounced say-ga like the computer

This is unlikely to help. Cue cracks about hedgehogs, sonic etc

MurrayTheMonk · 30/12/2019 12:19

Yep 'Sex And Games for the Aged' holidays (as my sister who used to work for then referred to it).
Or a long drama-The Forsyte Saga etc...

I knew a woman called Sada once pronounced as Saga but with a d instead of a G...might that work?
Or Sadie?
Ada?

helpneedshoes · 30/12/2019 12:31

Saga makes me think of the lady from the Bridge before financial services

helpneedshoes · 30/12/2019 12:32

Don't use Saga in the UK! Sounds like you're making a comment on how you found the pregnancy/conception...

Wow, that's a leap!

HermioneWeasley · 30/12/2019 12:39

I love it, but I’m anther “bridge” fan

Lordfrontpaw · 30/12/2019 12:40

Saga louts 😂

GoGoLego · 30/12/2019 13:20

It's an insurance holidays and a magazine for the 50+ - I'm in my 20s and aware of the company

It's also name for a bit of a drama so great if you have an over dramatic slightly stroppy teen dd

Evilmorty · 30/12/2019 14:53

If it is pronounced like the Sega computer thing, I’d imagine lots of people calling her name out like the weird start up sound the megadrive used to make.

ooooohbetty · 30/12/2019 14:55

Will be nicknamed Saggy

Mamabear88 · 30/12/2019 15:09

@99bb me too!

Runnerduck34 · 30/12/2019 22:17

I would think of saga holidays for the over 50s, probably fine in Scandinavia but in UK I think that's the first thing that would come to mind for a lot of people!

GrandmaSharksDentures · 30/12/2019 22:27

SAGA = sex and games (for the) aged

bettybattenburg · 31/12/2019 02:18

really? Where's that brochure?! Grin
