It's a girl's name fairly common in Scandinavia

OP posts:

Agree with the general consensus, Saga is not a good name to give to a child in the UK.

Swedetalker · 30/12/2019 09:32

I know loads of Sagas, but..I do live in Sweden.

Momniscient · 30/12/2019 10:00

Don't use Saga in the UK! Sounds like you're making a comment on how you found the pregnancy/conception... not good.

LittleBearPad · 30/12/2019 10:02

Not a good plan OP. It’s holidays and insurance for over 50s or long depressing stories. Neither suit a little girl.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 30/12/2019 10:04

She'll be called Saggy Saga.

It's over 50s holidays too

No!

Modernhistorybuff · 30/12/2019 10:08

I don't think the over 50s holiday should necessarily put you off.
As soon as anyone knows her then they'll know Saga as her name.
It's not as though it's a word that means something rude in English.

MyOtherProfile · 30/12/2019 10:10

I've never heard of saga holidays, is it well known amongst younger people?
Good news. You can benefit from saga once you're 50. You don't even need to search for them. They just started writing to me out of the blue once I hit 49 and a half.

Hundredacrewoods · 30/12/2019 10:16

Saga: a long story of heroic achievement, especially a medieval prose narrative in Old Norse or Old Icelandic; or a long, involved story, account, or series of incidents.

My vote is for Sage!

Selinespeak · 30/12/2019 10:19

I don’t like it. I have met a lovely girl called Story though.

Aragog · 30/12/2019 10:32

It's not a name I'd choose use in the UK with the whole Saga insurance/financial/holiday company link.

However, I do,agree that with time people close,to,you will just come to associate your child with the name, for example I teach a child named Siri. Initially it always brought to mind the Apple voice recognition, and in fact I had to disable the use of Siri on out class Ipads. However, now it is just the child's name. But I suspect whenever the child meets someone new it will always be the first thing they think of.

Saga holidays: coaches full of saga-louts
(worries about being old enough to attend)

Ollypollydolly · 30/12/2019 10:41

I’m in my early 20s and know what Saga holidays are

Notthisnotthat · 30/12/2019 10:43

Saga holidays, insurance etc was the first thing that came to my mind too.

SnuggyBuggy · 30/12/2019 10:45

A lot of British people will just think of the over 50s magazine and holiday company.

ItWasntMyFault · 30/12/2019 11:08

Holidays for over 50s (also known commonly known as Sex And Games for the Aged!). Not good as a name.

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 30/12/2019 11:16

I thought elderly car insurance then a historical loooonnnggg novel.

But if you like it, use it. Just a name.

SylvanianFrenemies · 30/12/2019 11:17

Older people products.
Long-winded, complicated stories.

Plus, I wouldn't want my name to feature the word "sag". That would be tough as a teenager.

Lunde · 30/12/2019 11:24

Saga means fairy tale in Swedish

fedup21 · 30/12/2019 11:30

I've never heard of saga holidays, is it well known amongst younger people?

Probably.

You can guarantee that every shop worker, member of the nursery, teacher etc that your child comes across will have heard of it as well!

MrPickles73 · 30/12/2019 11:31

Holidays for pensioners is the first thing I think of.

Mymycherrypie · 30/12/2019 11:33

My second thought was the holidays. My first was the Star Wars saga.

SashayThatWay · 30/12/2019 11:36

You might get a free Parker Pen just for registering her though?

Boireannachlaidir · 30/12/2019 11:42

Oh go for it OP, crack on.

Who cares what others think?! You don't need to seek approval on here eh?

WhiskersPete · 30/12/2019 11:45

But it's pronounced say-ga like the computer

bettybattenburg · 30/12/2019 11:52

No. It's a long winded story or a holiday company for older people
