It's very early in the day for us to be thinking about names (15 weeks) but wanting to get some opinions on these names.
No fixed middle names, not 100% sure we want any/ need any with this list!
Surname is common, soft sounding with two syllables. (Think Ss and Ls)

Genevieve
Evangeline
Florence
Elizabeth (Eliza)
Cornelia
Matilda

Names I like that DH doesn't:
Josephine
Alice
Penelope

Names DH likes that I don't:
Clementine

Our favourite names is Genevieve but I'm quite keen to not settle until baby arrives, so need a good shortlist!

Opinions and suggestions welcome

I love Evangeline it's my dd2 middle name. Love Florence my dog was called that! Cordelia is nicer than Cornelia.
No point choosing a name only one of you liked so forget those lists.
Genevieve is lovely don't know anyone called that can be Jenny or Evie for short.
Other suggestions along those lines;
Clara
Cassandra
Seraphina
Melissa
Vivienne
Ottoline

@PsychosonicCindy thank you! I included those names to give some more information on the sorts of names that have been vetoed. We love Seraphina, but I think it's a no go due to the recent TV series (His Dark Materials - which is based on the books that we got our dog's name from Lyra!)
I will add all your suggestions to our list for DH's opinion :)

Do you know if the baby is a boy or girl?

DramaAlpaca · 27/12/2019 17:20

I like all the sames on your list with the exception of Cornelia, which makes me think of feet (corns) for some reason. Cordelia is much nicer.

Cross off your list any that either of you doesn't like, and think about how much a name's popularity matters to you - you might want to rule out Matilda and Florence.

If you both love Genevieve that's a good start, it's beautiful, flexible with diminutives and not too popular. Elizabeth fits the bill too.

thosethreewords · 27/12/2019 17:44

We know baby is a girl.
The other suggestions of ones we like but the other doesn't was more for ideas on what we have thought of already. We won't be going for any of those obviously.
Thanks for the advice re Cornelia - definitely made me double think that name!

@Awwlookatmybabyspider yes I think we do! Charlotte is definitely also on our list and Elizabeth is my second favourite (I just don't love 'Lizzy' as a shortened name so may have to rethink Eliza/Elizabeth) Thanks for your suggestions! @Ricekrispie22

Genevieve - it's ok. The couple I know are really annoying. Also I want to pronounce it the much prettier French way every time I see it
Evangeline - not a fan. Overly flowery and Eve or Angie are not nice nicknames.
Florence - lovely
Elizabeth (Eliza) - lovely
Cornelia - I don't like Cornelia but I adore Cordelia.
Matilda - lovely

LadyGAgain · 27/12/2019 21:29

Elizabeth is timeless and beautiful.
My fave from your list is Evangeline.
Others we loved were
Aurelia
Ophelia
Thea
Rosalie
Nina
Lucinda
Evelina
Taryn
Congratulations and good luck!

LadyGAgain · 27/12/2019 21:30

Ps - agree with a PP about Cornelia. Reminds me of bunions.

hurrythefuckupgeorge · 27/12/2019 21:34

Really like your list except Cornelia as per pps.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I've spoken to DH and he agrees with Cordelia being nicer than Cornelia! So it's a swap!

Genevieve - no, frumpy
Evangeline - no, too frilly and so many Evies and Evas.
Florence - fine
Elizabeth (Eliza) - Ok but use one or the other
Cornelia - nice
Matilda - overused
Josephine - like
Alice - like a lot
Penelope - not keen
Clementine - too fruity
