Baby name already in the family

Just wanted to get thoughts on this as I really like a girls name that’s already in our extended family. We don’t see them very often (very much a weddings and funerals family on that side). The child is now 14 also so they’re not close in age. So I just wondered is it acceptable? What are people’s thoughts? Thanks

What relation will the children be to each other?

mamablondie · 23/12/2019 11:11

Third cousins, so it’s my mum’s cousin’s child if that makes sense? We haven’t seen them for about three years

I think it depends on how unusual the name is

RandDandC · 23/12/2019 11:12

That’s fine, both me and my dads cousins daughter (who is about 6 years younger) have the same name, and it’s a fairly common name

ParkheadParadise · 23/12/2019 11:20

My sister and 7 cousins all have the same name.
My mum and 7 of her siblings all named their first born daughter the same name after my granny. Its so confusing when your talking about one of them😂😂
Go for it.

Back in the old days there weren't so many names around Smile Cousins would have the same name and nobody thought anything about it. It did sometimes cause problems when relatives would refer to "little" James or "you know, Mary's Alan not Joan's Alan" but as they all grew up, acquired nicknames and moved away it didn't matter at all. After all the child will have the name you choose for a very very long time. Choose the name you love for your baby.

My cousins Dd has the same name as me I was 17/18 when she was born it honestly isn't a huge deal a 3rd cousin is so far along the family nobody will care really.

Redlocks28 · 23/12/2019 11:38

my mum’s cousin’s child

You and your mum’s cousin’s child are second cousins.

Your baby will be this child’s second cousin once removed.

Not close-use the name!

Mrsjayy · 23/12/2019 11:39

Well exactly what a pp said in families in years gone by there will be same names.

Enko · 23/12/2019 11:41

Perfectly fine to use.

Poorolddaddypig · 23/12/2019 12:54

Third cousin is barely a relative imo

IckleBear · 26/12/2019 16:35

It's fine to use

DramaAlpaca · 26/12/2019 16:37

Go for it.
