Baby girl name Alaïa? Pronounced a-lay-a and would be Alaïa rose

Suggest you Google what the dots mean

SundayMorningSun · 22/12/2019 18:12

The dots usually mean the letter is pronounced separately (as in Chloë), so I'd assume this was something like ah-lie-EE-ah

PlantPotting · 22/12/2019 19:32

Sorry don’t understand this name. All a bit too complicated and OTT with the dots. Not a name JR want for myself

How about Athena or Aria or Aurora or Aurelia

MikeUniformMike · 22/12/2019 19:33

It is pronounce Al-eye-ah
A bit like A-liar.

Why don't you call her Azzedine Alaïa and be done with it?

MikeUniformMike · 22/12/2019 19:33

d

MikeUniformMike · 22/12/2019 19:42

How about Ungaro Rose, but pronounce the first name Ungayro instead of the correct way

Omashu · 22/12/2019 19:49

I’d read that as Al-eye-EE-ya also..

VioletCharlotte · 22/12/2019 20:15

I think it's normally spelt Allayah. It's a really pretty name, but I would stick to the traditional spelling, otherwise you'll be forever correcting people.

MrsNoMopp · 22/12/2019 20:25

I think it's a lovely name.

Cornishmum00 · 22/12/2019 20:28

Lovely name but spell it the normal way

helpmum2003 · 22/12/2019 20:30

Too complicated sorry

PlantPotting · 22/12/2019 20:45
  • I’d not JR (in my earlier post)

Sorry

scarednamechange · 22/12/2019 20:51

The dots as previous posters have said mean that the letter is pronounced separately so
Alaïa= uh-lie-EE-uh
You can’t just chuck the two dots in to make the name unique or whatever. They actually have a purpose in language

CatteStreet · 22/12/2019 20:58

'You can’t just chuck the two dots in to make the name unique or whatever. They actually have a purpose in language'

This!

How about Aleida intead?
