Shay for a boy?

Hi,

We like shay and are considering this name for a boy. Although i know it can also be a girls name, do you think it sounds girly?
Or suits a boy better?
What are your thoughts?

I've met a couple of male Shays, never known it as a girl's name. I like it.

There are 3 in my kids school- 2 are just Shay, one is shortened from Seamus. It’s a Catholic school and all are from Irish families (although 2nd gen).

It’s definitely seen as a boys name if you look at the 2018 statistics- Shay is number 366 in the charts for boys (whereas it’s outside the top 3,000 names for girl’s! Less than 10 girls with this name)

I used to work with a male Shay.

I know a bloke called Shae. I think both spellings are lovely.

Shay in Ireland is short name for Seamus as Charlie is to Charles in the UK. Seamus is the Irish for James. Lots of people use shortened names only , I think it sounds lovely .

I knew a boy called Shea a few years ago - he was a lovely boy

I know two or three Shay's, all boys. Never heard of it being used as a girl's name personally.

Oh one of the absolutely loveliest boys I know is a Shay. Not sure if he spells it Shay or Shea. But he is amazing! His brother is Beau or Bo (not sure). But they are gorgeous boys.

I have taught two boys with that name (both have been little shits ) so that puts me off lol. But it is a boys name too
