Could it be a nickname for something..?

Francis is lovely, I’m biased though as I’ve got a chubby 10 month old Francis 😊

Fergus is nice.

There’s an August at my baby group, such a lovely name.

Leopardprintboots · 05/12/2019 20:42

If you like the X in Felix how about Dexter?

nespressowoo · 05/12/2019 20:48

I have a friend who has a dog called Buddy.

Shalom23 · 05/12/2019 20:58

Great book by Nigel Hinton, staple of English departments. Protagonist is called Buddy. I like it. Friendly name.

Oldknees1 · 05/12/2019 20:59

He may be called Bud for short! Do you like the sound of Bud for your child's name ? Remember kids can be cruel and a name is for life not just for Christmas.

Whattodoabout · 06/12/2019 10:50

Awful.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 06/12/2019 10:57

Jamie Oliver has a Buddy Bear. It fits well with their other children’s names.

I’d choose a different official name and use Buddy as a nickname. My own DCs have several nicknames each, some from family and some from friends, most nothing to do with their given names at all.

ArlenesWoodBurningStove · 06/12/2019 11:01

I like Fergus and I LOVE Gus.

Enko · 06/12/2019 11:10

I like it and I think Buddy Holly when I hear it. BH's real name was Charles btw.if you and dh both like it. Go for it. People get used to it. Ds is called Conrad we have had lots of negative reactions however at almost 18 he 100%suits his name and I am pleased we did it

Enko · 06/12/2019 11:11

Btw will also say that of all your names Buddy is by far the best the others are just traditional and a bit dull for my liking

EleanorShellstrop100 · 06/12/2019 13:16

OP like a PP said, nobody on MN likes ANY name that they can’t imagine being used by a member of the royal family. I know a little Buddy and his name suits her perfectly - it’s a really cool, sweet, modern name - everything MN hates. But that doesn’t mean it’s a bad name! I think Buddy is great!

Butterflycookie · 06/12/2019 13:26

Elf

LarkDescending · 06/12/2019 16:02

Fergus/Gus is nice (though personally I prefer Angus).

Perhaps Barnaby/Barney might appeal?

snowybaubles · 06/12/2019 16:05

Are you having an Elf?

Leopardprintboots · 06/12/2019 16:50

I also prefer Angus or Magnus to Fergus as Fergus sounds too like Fungus to my ears xxx good choices though

emilybrontescorsett · 07/12/2019 20:37

I was wondering what Buddy Holiday's real name was, I would never have guessed it was Charles.
I'm not keen on Buddy.

Justkeeprollingalong · 08/12/2019 10:02

@Grufallosfriends Ted/Teddy is short for Edward.

partofyoupoursoutofme · 08/12/2019 10:30

Buddy Guy was my first thought. Very cool, amazing musician, hugely influential. Where I live nobody would bat an eyelid! (UK city)

scaredycatz · 08/12/2019 11:43

It's nice I'd go for it if you like it. I wouldn't be concerned if people thought it sounded like a dogs name but I love dogs so 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Katfood · 09/12/2019 12:16

Jamie Oliver has a Buddy.

Personally I'm not so keen on such cutesy names (Buddy, Teddy, Alfie, Archie etc) but they seem to be fashionable atm.

Buddy is a ridiculous name. Sorry.

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 15/12/2019 16:42

Going on the comments above, you would need very thick skin.

Tom Fletcher (from mcfly) called his son Buddy, my first reaction was wtf? But people will get over it. It just depends if other peoples opinions will upset you!

StanleyWalkersThirdWife · 15/12/2019 18:16

Wow some harsh replies here.

Its not my style of name as it does seem like a bit of a "celebrity kid" name but I think these days anything goes so dont think it would stand out too much tbh.

I had a quick Google and apparently buddy is/was used as a nn for William or Robert - William is nice?
