Everyone, it is quite clearly not for a dog as it's in the baby name section but yes very funny har har I get it's a bit weird and probably hormones again.
We've been calling him buddy as a nickname and it's sort of stuck so just thought I'd put it out there.
In America I feel it would be fine, we don't live there though

First thing I thought...Buddy the Elf what's your favourite colour?! It's very sweet though, a cute little nickname but I wouldn't do it for a first name.

catlovingdoctor · 04/12/2019 21:11

Oh for goodness sake...

cricketmum84 · 04/12/2019 21:12

Yup my first thoughts were my grandads dog from when I was a kid or Buddy the elf.

Cute name for a baby, not so much a stropping 15yo with an attitude problem 😂

piraterach12 · 04/12/2019 21:13

I straight away though "the elf". Lovely nickname but I don't think it would be appreciated as a proper name

Buddyelf · 04/12/2019 21:14

I like it Wink

MotherofPearl · 04/12/2019 21:17

OP, please opt for Francis (a lovely name) or Charles.

Buddy and Felix are both clearly names for pets.

Lotus90 · 04/12/2019 21:18

Great name for a dog

MrsNoMopp · 04/12/2019 21:18

Francis (Frankie), Felix and Caspar are all great.

Buddy is the dog on Doc Martin.

Sweetooth92 · 04/12/2019 21:18

Oh OP,
Surely you know that Mumsnet is full of traditionalists and anything remotely modern or unusual is hated.
For what it’s worth, i like Buddy-but my son is called Maverick so as far as the Mumsnet massive are concerned I should be shot and flogged so my opinion shouldn’t count.

It’s your baby. Name him what you and your DH want too. If you factored in everyone else’s opinion you would never name the little soul 😊

CalleighDoodle · 04/12/2019 21:18

Buddy is an elf. Not even a dog.

ButDoYouHaveASleighTho · 04/12/2019 21:30

Yeah I'm a dog groomer. Got lots of Buddys. Never met a kid called Buddy though

misspiggy19 · 04/12/2019 21:33

Good name for a stuffed toy or dog.

misspiggy19 · 04/12/2019 21:34

For what it’s worth, i like Buddy-but my son is called Maverick

^Maverick. Uh huh.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 04/12/2019 21:36

In my area of the USA Buddy is a nickname for Howard.

fairybeagle · 04/12/2019 21:41

Thank you @Sweetooth92 it's nice to have a kind comment. I like the name Maverick too :)

Cute name! I can't imagine it for an adult though? However by the time current children are adults I imagine there will be loads of unusual names out there!

Tdmama · 04/12/2019 21:45

Doesn't Tom from Mcfly have a son called Buddy? If you like it then go for it! You can't please everyone

Joeler · 04/12/2019 21:48

Freddy and Francis are lovely names.I really don't like the name Gus,but I've just googled it and saw it's a shortened version of Augusto and Angus, which I must prefer.

OhMyDarling · 04/12/2019 21:50

.... the elf?

DulciUke · 04/12/2019 21:52

I had a great uncle named Junior. Not Don Junior or Fred Junior. Just Junior. (Youngest of nine--I think his mom just gave up on names.) At any rate, I'd put Buddy in the same category. Fine for a family nickname, but please don't make it their legal first name.

20viona · 04/12/2019 21:52

Dog name

BercowsFestiveFlamingo · 04/12/2019 21:59

Well it's better than Buster. There's a Buster at DD's school. Poor kid. Thankfully his last name isn't Gonad.

HairyToity · 04/12/2019 22:04

I also know a little boy called Buddy. Again I'm not keen, but his parents seem happy with their choice.

I like Francis (Frank). I love love love Fergus (Gus). How about Hector or Fraser?
