My dog is Buddy

user1493494961 · 04/12/2019 22:09

Your other choices are better (much better).

TargaryenBean · 04/12/2019 22:21

When I hear Buddy I think Elf!

fanniboz · 04/12/2019 22:23

Ah I've always liked Buddy but would never have the stones to use it. It's definitely on my list if I become a celebrity though Grin maybe choose a less unusual name but just carry on calling him Buddy as his nickname. Everybody wins

SingingSands · 04/12/2019 22:34

We use it as a greeting for DS and his friends. In an "alright Buddy?" way.. it's too cutesy for a real name I think.

northernknickers · 04/12/2019 23:04

Imagine your child as an adult, applying for jobs, meeting clients, sitting in a hospital waiting room...then choose their name with those scenarios in mind 👍😮

MrsNoMopp · 05/12/2019 00:06

What's the point of the baby names topic then Sweettooth? Grin

AmyMaria2 · 05/12/2019 00:15

Buddy the elf

tabbiemoo · 05/12/2019 00:37

Buddy is an elf or a dog.

I love Felix though
Also Casper, Kit, Jude, Rafferty

Not so keen on Francis or Charles and really don't like Fergus (sounds too much like Fungus)

Sweetooth92 · 05/12/2019 08:35

@MrsNoMopp to make people question their choices that they’ve already spent hours arguing out with their other halves I reckon 😊 before directing to an approved list of a few dozen options.

We frequently have our kids names on the name slating threads. I don’t take any of it to heart, we now check how many posts in it is before they make it there. Wouldn’t do us all to be the same & we feel they suit their names 😊 it just baffles me how nasty people can be when they have their usernames to hide behind.

IHeartKingThistle · 05/12/2019 08:46

My DN is called Buddy. It suits him.

Justkeeprollingalong · 05/12/2019 09:24

Register him with a proper first name but call him Buddy at home. Then at least he has a choice when he is older.
My friend's aunt was called Violet but everyone called her Bill!

PaddingtonBrown · 05/12/2019 09:48

Doesn't Tom from mcfly have a son called Buddy

Yes and the other is named Buzz. I mean, come on, Buddy and Buzz?! Fine as nicknames but absolutely ridiculous as actual names.

The baby is named Maxwell though which is lovely and doesn't really "go" with the others.

Leopardprintboots · 05/12/2019 11:17

@fairybeagle

Don’t worry that you don’t “love” any names. You fall more in love with a name when you have your baby in your arms and you associate that name with them. You sound like quite an indecisive person and I am too so I can relate. What helps me is to remind myself that for an indecisive person “there is NO perfect name. It doesn’t exist”. Every name in existence will have a fault with it.

Why don’t you use Buddy as a middle name seen as you’re calling baby it already. If he loves it as he grows up then he can start using it. In terms of your list:

Francis - Love
Charles - Love
Felix (definitely a no go from DH sadly) as is my other fave - love
Casper - love * favourite

I really love Casper and think you should revisit it.

How about Tristan? Cole? Seth? Milo/miles? Otto?

What about Bodhi if you like “B” names?

OrlandoInTheWilderness · 05/12/2019 13:13

...The Elf. Sorry!!!

RhymingRabbit3 · 05/12/2019 13:16

What's your favourite colour?

Ihavethefinalsleigh · 05/12/2019 13:19

It's shite.

namechangejustforthis1 · 05/12/2019 13:25

My son is called Buddy. It suits him and I've not heard any negative comments. Really happy we went with it.

TheStaleBiscuitofDoom · 05/12/2019 14:02

It's great for a dog. Terrible for a child.

Topseyt · 05/12/2019 14:27

I don't like Buddy for a child. I might use it for a dog though.

Grufallosfriends · 05/12/2019 14:31

Buddy has the same feel as Teddy, it's a cute nickname. I'd probably give him a longer name officially.

I like Caspar or how about Quentin or Cassius?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 05/12/2019 14:41

There’s no denying it’s adorably cute. However I can’t imagine it on 40 year old man.

Grufallosfriends · 05/12/2019 14:47

Nor can I imagine a 40 year old Teddy 🧸 !

Which is what some parents appear to be calling their boys?!

Ellmau · 05/12/2019 19:16

Francis
Charles
Felix (definitely a no go from DH sadly) as is my other fave
Casper

Well, those are all lovely.
