What is your favourite? Settle a debate Grin

If you don't like either then no need to comment 😂

Those were the 2 names we debated between 4 years ago before DD was born. We went with Isla in the end but both are lovely names!

I'm a teacher and I had never taught an Isla before but since naming DD I have now taught 2 Islas. There are 3 Islas in my DD's year at school so I think it has risen in popularity Smile

Dyra · 03/12/2019 20:57

I like Isla better of the two.

AcrobaticCardigan · 03/12/2019 20:57

Isla for sure. Aria is strongly linked to Game of Thrones. (Despite the spelling difference). Id assume you were an obsessive fan.

Cbeebiesrehab · 03/12/2019 20:57

@Slouise92 I meant that I hadn’t read the whole thread before commenting but my spellcheck changed the acronym. I was actually trying to be nice and apologise for potentially insulting your daughter’s name.

TisTheSeasonForMincePies · 03/12/2019 21:05

I like both but both are rather popular at the moment, but that might not necessarily bother you.

As for comments regarding Game of Thrones, Aria and Arya are two separate names with separate meanings, a search shows that Aria is to do with music and Arya is "wise, noble etc" (GOT is supposed to be pronounced Ar-ya fyi) although Aria can be spelt as Arya so it can be confusing, think a lot of it can depend on country etc.

DramaAlpaca · 03/12/2019 21:16

Isla. Despite its apparent popularity I've never met one. Gorgeous name.

Slouise92 · 03/12/2019 22:09

I am so sorry I read that wrong. I googled what you wrote and it came up saying rolling on the floor laughing. I thought you was being mean. I apologise

QueenOfWinterfell · 03/12/2019 22:23

Aria will date badly and will always be associated with GoT despite the different spelling

Leopardprintboots · 03/12/2019 22:34

@dontfeedtheunicorn no Isla is actually falling in terms of popularity if you check the ONS data - the numbers of Isla’s have declined each and every year since 2014

It’s a great name 😍

Thetimetravelerswife · 03/12/2019 23:45

Isla

5LeafClover · 04/12/2019 01:54

Isla

Astronica · 04/12/2019 03:09

Isla

user1493494961 · 04/12/2019 09:06

Isla is much nicer, I never know how to pronounce Aria and think it is a bit of a fad, which will date.

SexlessBoulderBelly · 04/12/2019 09:09

I love them both and would also have trouble deciding but the one thing that would sway me is Isla is so so popular here!

So Aria! But don’t choose that because it might become too popular then I’ll have to cross it off my baby name list..

MrsBertBibby · 04/12/2019 10:49

Of the two, Isla. As long as your surname isn't White or Mann or similar!

puds11 · 04/12/2019 10:53

Aria is the name of one of the main characters in Pretty Little Liars. Just reminds me of her and Arya stark. Plus it’s deffo getting more popular.

allaboutthequestions · 04/12/2019 10:55

My 9 year old is Aria, naked after a character from on of my favourite book trilogies the inheritance cycle. Still my favourite name ever xx

allaboutthequestions · 04/12/2019 10:57

Names* obvious bloody auto correct 🙄

icecreamsundae32 · 05/12/2019 08:05

I love Aria! It's beautiful. Ignore the GOT reference that will be forgotten in 10 years.

HatingTheBigShow · 05/12/2019 23:50

I went to university with a very large Isla who had acquired the unfortunate nickname of Isla White behind her back. I'd avoid unless you and baby's father have very slim genes! Never heard of Aria before - is it Arr-ri-er or Ah-rye-er?

Aria - The Opera is not over till the fat lady sings ......
Isla - romantic over the sea to Skye sort of vibe .....

Mamabear88 · 06/12/2019 14:29

Isla is a gorgeous name and popular for a reason. Aria is very game of thrones. Not keen.
