Is it for a boy? Good name if he/she wants to play with ZZ Top.

SleepingStandingUp · 30/11/2019 20:47

Yes boy.

Zz top? Thry all had long beards?? That's all I remember about them lol

Ezekiel is more commonly shortened to zeke.

fallfallfall · 30/11/2019 20:50

Ummm Zachariah or Ezekiel not a fan of smashing them together

DramaAlpaca · 30/11/2019 20:51

It's spelled Zachariah.

I've never come across Zekeriah, have you made it up?

Zeke is traditionally short for Ezekiel.

RockinHippy · 30/11/2019 20:53

Sorry but no, it's awful..

I like Zeke, but if you want a long version Ezekiel is better, though imho not great either.

NannyR · 30/11/2019 20:54

The book in the bible and John the Baptists father is Zechariah.

PurpleDaisies · 30/11/2019 20:55

I don’t like that spelling of Zechariah.

bridgetreilly · 30/11/2019 20:59

Zechariah.

user1493494961 · 30/11/2019 21:29

I think you've made that spelling up.

percheron67 · 30/11/2019 21:44

I must add that I was not expecting the tiny to be born with a beard!! I think the group had biblical/western names.

SleepingStandingUp · 30/11/2019 22:12

It's spelled Zachariah the first e is a perfectly acceptable spelling. I accept the criticism of the spelling Zekeriah

SwampOfDeath · 30/11/2019 22:18

Why not just Zeke on its own? Lovely.
I will honestly never understand why people who have their hearts set on a specific nickname ("nn" -wtf!?) for their DC don't just call them the nickname on its own, but try to 'retrofit it onto a 'proper' name.

Thetimetravelerswife · 30/11/2019 22:19

Do you have Middle Eastern roots? As they pronounce it zekeriah (as you have written).

If you’re looking for more Arabic/English baby names, my favourite website is:

I prefer Zachariah.

Isadora2007 · 30/11/2019 22:20

Ezekiel is much nicer for Zeke

IceCreamConewithaflake · 30/11/2019 22:31

Ezekiel

IceCreamConewithaflake · 30/11/2019 22:32

What about Zathras?

SleepingStandingUp · 30/11/2019 22:40

I adore Ezekiel, DH won't budge from a hard no. I love Zachariah but its too close to another name, esp shortening it.

Re the awful parents who pick their own kids nn from the start, DH and I have always used shortened versions of our own names so it just feels normal to think of what we'd shorten it to. It isn't about not liking the full name.

I once looked aged a baby called Zeke. Just don't do it. It's terrible!

DramaAlpaca · 30/11/2019 22:49

OK, I accept that Zechariah is an alternative spelling. I hadn't realised, actually.

I see your point about Zachariah being too close to Zachary & the obvious diminutive being Zach.

Could you bear to just put Zeke on the bc? I quite like it, much more than any longer versions.

Bluelightdistrict · 01/12/2019 02:28

Why are you spelling it like that?

mathanxiety · 01/12/2019 07:36

The obvious shortening for Zekariah would have a short E sound though.

Zech or Zeck, not Zeke.

SleepingStandingUp · 01/12/2019 14:45

And mathanxiety answers Bluelightdistricts question, because I don't like Zech as a shortening. Was trying to get Zeke but feel like it's made proper spelling a sacrificial goat

Bluelightdistrict · 01/12/2019 15:42

What's wrong with Zakariyya?

Dolorabelle · 01/12/2019 16:01

Terrible spelling: it's Zachariah.

Your version reads as if you're parodying a New Zealand or South African accent - quite cruel, actually.
