WDYT?

Cecily Violet
Penelope Violet
Esme/Esmée Violet
Violet Esme/Esmée

Violet is after my husband’s late gran. We have a 3 year old called Aurora Lillian. Lillian, her middle name, also being an honour.

Hmm not sure about Aurora being in the same camp as Esme - I don't know one, it's still pretty rare. I know Esme is too, but I know two in our primary! Also one adult male Esme and I must say I prefer it on a man.

There is also the pronunciation thing with Esme (Es-mee v Es-may).

FizzyGreenWater · 28/11/2019 17:02

Prefer Celia out of Cecily/Cecilia actually! The others are a bit tongue twistery.

You could still have Cece from Celia.

Celia Violet is good.

Modestandatinybitsexy · 28/11/2019 17:16

LOVE Cecily! Cece is such a cute nn too. I think it goes really nicely with violet too.

MarshaBradyo · 28/11/2019 17:19

Penelope Violet but don’t shorten name full length is nicer

TatianaLarina · 28/11/2019 17:58

Penelope is the most ghastly name I don’t know why it’s so popular on here.

Penny is even worse.

MarshaBradyo · 28/11/2019 18:00

Funny I feel that way about a few that get lauded on mn but agree on Penny or Pen

SiobhanMummy · 28/11/2019 18:02

Esme Violet is lovely.

MadameJosephine · 28/11/2019 18:13

Penelope violet is gorgeous. I’m not keen on penny as a nickname though, I prefer Nell or Nellie

LizzyMargaret · 28/11/2019 18:14

We all have different tastes. I don’t think we could say one opinion overrules the other. I’m fine with people not liking the names I do :)

I think Penelope will inevitably get shortened but I like all the nicknames anyway.

@FizzyGreenWater I don’t think there’s much in it in regards to the popularity of Esme and Aurora now. Aurora’s popularity spiked and fast which is why I compared them. I’ve also seen comments about it being trendy and becoming dated as well. Sucks for those of us who always liked names that suddenly become popular and linked to a certain period of time lol. It’s not something I’m that bothered about though.

I love CeCe as a nickname for Cecily.

diddlediddle · 28/11/2019 19:20

Penelope Violet
Or
Cecily Violet

Love Penny and Cece.

Don't use esmee with an accent if you live in the U.K.

Don't like violet as first name because it reminds me of violent.

Nonnymum · 28/11/2019 19:27

I think Esme is beautiful. I wouldn't say it is 'trendy' or will become dated. Its an old name.

LizzyMargaret · 28/11/2019 20:29

@Nonnymum I agree even though it is popular. I think of Violet as an old name that’s just made a comeback too.

Having said that, I think if we use Esme/Esmée it’ll be in the middle name spot. I think there will be less confusion with spelling and pronunciation that way.

My daughter is called Esme and she is in her late 20s . She absolutely loves her name . Pronounced Esme not Esmay !!

LizzyMargaret · 28/11/2019 23:32

@Grandmi It’s a beautiful name and I do especially love it with Violet. We’d be aiming for the Ehz-May pronunciation. I’m not sure on which spelling to use either. I think it might be best in the middle name spot for us to be honest.

Cecily Violet is lovely!

LizzyMargaret · 29/11/2019 10:03

Thanks everyone! We’ve decided to go with the Esmée spelling after some searches and given our preferred pronunciation. We’re also going to keep it as a middle name so she will either be Violet Esmée, Penelope Violet or Cecily/Cecilia Violet.
