Also as my sister has an idea that names suit different ‘types’ of people and whilst I’m not sure I can agree, and definitely won’t be able to guess her personality, I thought I would share how she will likely look.

DSIS is blonde with blue eyes and BIL has dark brown hair and blue eyes so the baby will likely have some sort of light brown hair and blue eyes but obviously not certain.

I love Lola Poppy or Isla

bitterthings · 26/11/2019 15:41

@Leopardprintnboots
My sister does too but she’s worried that Isla is far too popular and people think Lola is a dogs nameGrin

Iris a classic name, I'd imagine Iris to be a creative soul.
Lola - I know a gorgeous Lola who is a lot of fun.
India - not too keen. It seems a bit pretentious unless personal association.
Polly - fun, cute.
Isla - classy. Friendly.
Maya (May-a) - quite common at the moment. Not my favourite,
Eva - lovely.

Coco - I like, but I don't think it would suit a person who is introvert.
Louisa - my favourite, friendly, kind, considerate.

Thetimetravelerswife · 26/11/2019 15:54

Iris-i like it.
Lola- dislike it, feels downmarket to me
India - like
Polly- dislike ( But I don’t like nicknamey names)
Isla- Like (so what if it’s popular?)
Maya (May-a)- I used to like but soooo overused
Eva- dislike
Coco- too nicknamey for me
Louisa- like but prefer Eloise.

fraggleplop · 26/11/2019 16:00

Louisa and Polly are lovely names

MikeUniformMike · 26/11/2019 16:11

Iris - not keen. I like the flower.
Lola - like but many don't. A bit too nicknamey and there are lots of names around that are similar - Lily, Lila etc
India - not keen
Polly - like it a lot
Isla - overused
Maya (May-a) - no
Eva - no
Coco - too nicknamey
Louisa - like it a lot

ps1991 · 26/11/2019 16:13

Eva is lovely. I teach a few Eva’s and they’re all nice girls.

EugeniaGrace · 26/11/2019 16:22

My order of preference:

Polly
.
.
.
.
Eva
.
.
.
.
(Keep going)
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Coco (But only if it is short for Constance)
.
.
.
.
Iris
Louisa
India
Isla
Maya (but I would pronounce it m-eye-ah initially)
Lola

Leopardprintboots · 26/11/2019 16:22

@bitterthings if you look at the statistics the numbers of babies called Isla have been declining for the past 4 or 5 years now so it’s not as common as it was

How about Eliza? Similar name to Isla but rarer

I like Iris India and Polly too
Isla and Lola are my favourites and I don’t think Lola is a dogs name

NoSauce · 26/11/2019 16:30

Lola - no
India - love
Polly - sweet
Isla - boring
Maya (May-a) prefer Gaia
Eva - no
Coco - love
Louisa

auditoryhallucinations · 26/11/2019 16:37

I love coco and Louisa but I'm not sure they go well together!

Maya, Isla and Lola also lovely

userabcname · 26/11/2019 16:39

I like Polly the best. I do like Coco although I'd probably use as a nn for something else (Chloe?). India and Iris are both nice. The rest I'm not keen on.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 26/11/2019 18:20

Iris - not keen. Sounds too much like Isis...

Lola - I know it's very popular now but I've always hated this name. Can't not sing Copacabana when I hear it.

India - doesn't Katie Hopkins have a child called India? I'm sure the child is lovely but the mother is a vile troll...

Polly - Nope

Isla - genuinely very beautiful name. Quite popular now but that wouldn't put me off

Maya - meh. No strong feelings either way.

Eva - don't like much. Eve/ Evie are nicer

Coco - don't like. It's a very strong name to live up to...

Louisa - lovely. Timeless. Although I think Louise is overdue a comeback....

LarkDescending · 26/11/2019 18:28

I like Polly and Louisa from the list.

I also thought of Rosa, which might appeal.

daisypond · 26/11/2019 18:47

Louisa definitely top. I also like Iris and I quite like Polly. Worst on the list is India.

CodenameVillanelle · 26/11/2019 18:50

Most of them are pretty bland and/or overused and will date
Iris - nice
Lola- awful
India - naff
Polly - bit 70s
Isla - boring
Maya (May-a) - boring
Eva - boring
Coco - no
Louisa - bit 70s but ok - I'd probably spell it Luisa because it's prettier

Aragog · 26/11/2019 18:54

In terms of popularity in the infant school I work at....in the last 5 years I have taught...

Iris - 1
Lola - 1
India - 0
Polly - 2
Isla - 4
Maya (May-a) - 4
Eva - 2
Coco - 2
Louisa - 0

Aragog · 26/11/2019 18:56

Maya - will have the pronunciation issue, so it depends if that will bother you or get you annoyed when someone says it wrong. People will generally vary between May-a, Mee-ya and Migh-ya

Chlosavxox · 26/11/2019 18:56

Isla is my favourite, it's actually my number one choice if this baby is a girl Smile

busymummy19 · 26/11/2019 19:50

Iris is my favourite

MrsNoMopp · 26/11/2019 20:10

Louisa is my favourite, by far, then Iris and Eva (Eve, Evie, Eva and Ava have been mega-popular in the recent past though).

To my ears (and many will disagree), Polly, India, Lola and Coco are a bit pretentious but ditsy, like dolls names.

Maya and Isla are a bit insipid IMHO.

Otherwisebaldandunconvincing · 26/11/2019 22:50

Iris - love love love this but it's getting more popular. I think it's gorgeous though
Lola - don't like at all
India -really don't like at all. The fact that Katie Hopkins has this name really puts me off. She's so down-market
Polly - I really like this. I can't bear Molly or Holly but Polly is so lovely and fresh
Isla - I really like this
Maya (May-a) - I like it but would pronounce it My-a so I think it would get annoying
Eva - ok. A bit boring
Coco - awful
Louisa - lovely.

I love Iris, Louisa and Polly and like Isla.
I think those names suit any type of child.

MrsBertBibby · 26/11/2019 23:19

Iris is hands down the best. Eva a very distant second, the rest are nowhere.

EleanorShellstrop100 · 27/11/2019 05:01

Iris - lovely and vintage and beautiful! Gaining popularity but not much
Lola - I love the sound of this! But snobby people on Mumsnet will say it’s a stripper name
India - lovely!
Polly - very cute
Isla - No, lovely name but so overdone that it’s ruined it a bit
Maya (May-a) - Same as Isla
Eva - Same as Isla and Maya
Coco - very cool!
Louisa -kind of cool and vintage
