Final post (I hope!)
What do you think of the name Sophia?
Would it go well with Noah?
Do you think its likely to be shortened or not?
Does it sound girly while still being sophisticated?
Thanks Smile

I love the name and do think it does nicely with Noah. Personally, I wouldn’t shorten it but I suppose some people might.

Leopardprintboots · 22/11/2019 21:40

It’s a gorgeous name and would sound amazing with Noah

Cbeebiesrehab · 22/11/2019 21:41

I prefer the pronunciation so-FIE-uh and the nn fiah but I think Sophia would be shortened to Soph.

hazeydays14 · 22/11/2019 21:42

I love Sophia
I know it’s fairly popular now but I think it’s lovely. Goes well with Noah.

Eckhart · 22/11/2019 21:44

SO girly. SO sophisticated. I can't imagine anyone called Sophia being anything but intelligent and dignified and graceful. (although it's obviously different when they're babies Wink)

It goes smashing with Noah, too.

rededucator · 22/11/2019 21:45

Beautiful

FatAndFurious7 · 22/11/2019 21:56

My best friend is a Sophie so any version of Soph/Sophia/Sofie I absolutely adore. It's not overly used at the moment either and yes it goes beautifully with Noah

1066vegan · 22/11/2019 22:04

Sophia and Sophie are both lovely.

Elzbells · 22/11/2019 22:06

I have a Sophia, she's 9 and the only one on her year.

I call her FiFi as a nickname and the kids at school tend to abbreviate it to Thea. I love her name, haven't had one single regret.

Astronica · 22/11/2019 22:25

A nice name. I think it meets your description of 'girly and sophisticated'.

Noah and Sophia sound like 2 random quite different names next to each other, so for me I can't say they 'go together.' Complementarity with names is so subjective as this thread shows. I think eg Grace or Elsie sound better next to Noah. I love name sets that have the same vibe, but sometimes you just need to choose the name your love irrespective of sibling names.

Tolleshunt · 22/11/2019 22:27

I love it, but it’s been v v popular in our area for some years now. There are three Sophias and a Sophie in DD’s reception class.

daisypond · 22/11/2019 22:39

I like Sophia as a name but I don’t think it goes with Noah. It’s a different style of name. It’s not an awful pairing, just slightly odd. (Prefer so-fye-a pronunciation).

Choice4567 · 22/11/2019 22:39

My only thought is that both names are massively popular at the moment, loads at school right now

Leopardprintboots · 22/11/2019 22:43

Nearly double the number of Noah’s born last year (over 4,000) compared to Sophia (around 2,000).

I actually haven’t met any sophia’s in my local baby groups

Leopardprintboots · 22/11/2019 22:43

Sophia also on a downward trajectory so that’s a good sign popularity wise

olympia7 · 22/11/2019 22:47

Thank you everyone.
For those who have mentioned popularity.... this is not an issue for me. I choose names I love. I don't even look at popularity on the stats. As its insignificant to me.

Ahhh yay @Olympia7 - glad we could help 🤩
It’s a great name!! Def one of my favourites of your suggestions on other posts ❤️

MrsNoMopp · 22/11/2019 23:06

It's a lovely name and goes well with Noah.

What a lovely thread 😍

Proseccoinamug · 22/11/2019 23:15

I don’t know any Sophies or Sophias and I love it.

mistermagpie · 23/11/2019 00:07

I only know of one but she spells it Sofia (she's not British) and I do prefer the 'f' spelling myself. I love the name though.

I don't think it goes with Noah. The So and No sounds are the problem and the fact that they both end with an 'a' sound. But they aren't going to spend their whole lives being introduced as a 'set' so I wouldn't bother about that,

Thetimetravelerswife · 23/11/2019 09:15

My niece is a Sophia! I like it. But there are 4 other sophia’s in her year at school of a class of 20...that means a 5th of her class are called Sophia.

Other names that meet the European regal criteria that are similar to sophia are:

Isabella/Isabelle
Amelia/Amelie/Emilia
Matilda
Alexandra
Charlotte
Beatrice

Other names that have a similar feel:
Olivia
Camilla
Ariella
Clara
Aurelia

Incase you wanted less popular options.

OP, I had a long list of boys names and struggled to find girls names. I ended up with Sophia and I loved it, and she loves it too. x
