As the title says...

We've picked a name that pays tribute to my late grandad, myself & my partner are really happy with it but so many people keep telling us we better not use an old man's name or it better not be anyone's in the family or a to "out there" name or blah blah blah 😒😒😒
His nickname will be CJ which I really like.

Why do people think they have a say on the name of the baby you're pushing out of your vagina??? 🤔🤣

I think I'm a bit touchy as I got such shit over my daughters name when she was born I ended up with PND... But still it's no one else's business right??

Your family sound a bit thick.

Yawn in the their faces when they start whining about the name. Keep doing it. Look directly at them and yawn. Don’t say anything. Don’t respond to their comments (their comments are irrelevant- the name has been chosen- they don’t get a say) repeat repeat repeat. They’ll get The message eventually.

Delilah - one of my favourite names

MikeUniformMike · 14/11/2019 10:35

Is the name Clive. Due a comeback if you ask me.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 14/11/2019 13:23

Why would you be disowned because of a name?! 🙄 It's a great name by the way

virginpinkmartini · 14/11/2019 13:28

You got PND because people were criticising your choice of name? I'm not sure that is how it works...

virginpinkmartini · 14/11/2019 13:31

Anyway, just keep the name to yourself until after the baby is born. People seem to keep their cunty comments to themselves when faced with an actual baby, but for some reason they think they have some stake in the decision making when in utero, even if you didn't ask for their opinion. That's what I'm doing. Not even telling closest family what we've settled on because I don't want the name tainted with their little input.

virginpinkmartini · 14/11/2019 13:32

And if people still give you crap after the baby is born, say that you think their name is shite as well. It's really nasty to slag off someone's actual name.

Biancadelrioisback · 14/11/2019 13:39

My son very much has an old man's name, and not a popular one (ie George, Henry etc). I can always tell when people are a bit Hmm about it but tough! Our kid, not theirs

Pinkblueberry · 14/11/2019 13:39

People will say what they say - yes of course it’s none of their business but if you’re confident with your choice then why are you bothered? Just ignore. Besides, it’s a risk you take when you reveal a baby’s name before they’re born - I therefore didn’t. I was happy to hear ideas but kept firmly shtum about my choices. People are quick to give their opinions then. Reveal it after - most people know to keep their mouths shut then, most people don’t look at a little newborn and start dissing their name.

"At a few hours old I had messages saying she would grow up to be a whore & she will be disowned by her fathers grandparent (which she was)"

Oh, OP, that's just outrageous.
Terrible thing to say, but to disown a child? Am speechless.

FWIW, Delilah's a great name.
A lot of assumptions seem to get made by rude RL critics that everyone is religious/ takes the bible literally/ pays any heed to Tom Jones lyrics.
Pretty arrogant. Sod them.

That said, if potential name's something like 'Copernicus', that would take a lot to live up to... Wink

runoutofideasnow · 14/11/2019 17:53

Your family sound horrible!!

Delilah is a pretty name - I'm an irregular church goer and the connotations aren't immediately that strong for me, I actually thought of the Tom Jones song first.

Is C.J. Charlie/Charles James?

MikeUniformMike · 14/11/2019 17:59

Copernicus is brilliant. What a brilliant name. OP, Here's your middle name. Baby is CCJ.

Pinkblueberry · 14/11/2019 20:35

Didn’t want to say anything about that... but I’m glad it wasn’t just me thinking that.
