Everyone will think it’s a boy.

Moominfan · 07/11/2019 16:32

I like it

AuntieStella · 07/11/2019 16:39

It seems as if every other toddler boy is called Finley, so I wouid find it really odd for a girl

Leopardprintboots · 07/11/2019 16:52

I like it. I know a little girl called Noah (that spelling), I think it’s really cool. Plus all the little Aurora’s with nn Rory!

bridgetreilly · 07/11/2019 17:27

Well, I dunno. Would you call a boy Fiona? If yes, then sure, why not? If no, then no.

Cariaprl · 07/11/2019 17:31

Sorry but it's not a great boys name as it is. Why give your girl a boys name?

Mrsjayy · 07/11/2019 17:36

It is a celtic boys name Isn't it? at one point you couldn't move for Finn's/Finley's it's really up to you but I do think. You will be saying he is a she for a while.

Cyberworrier · 07/11/2019 17:39

Why not Finola, a traditional girls Gaelic name?

Freewanderer · 07/11/2019 18:11

Sorry but no! I don’t think she would thank you years down the line.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 07/11/2019 18:14

There was a character on Home And Away years ago called Finlay who was a girl.Fin-lay not Fin-li

Screamqueenz · 07/11/2019 18:15

I genuinely thought it was a boys name.

diddlediddle · 07/11/2019 19:22

As long as you don't mind daily telling everyone she's a girl, and then for her to have to correct everyone for the rest of her life then go for it. I personally haven't got a theoretical problem with girls/boys having boys/girls names but I do think there can be practical issues.

usernamo · 07/11/2019 19:39

Yeah, it was my worry that it was too predominantly male.

It is unisex but it's been used for hundreds of boys a year and between 5-10 girls.

From someone who has a traditional boys name id avoid it , it gave me so much stress through school and introducing myself to new people .

Xxx

Trustmeimamidwife · 07/11/2019 19:53

I don’t like it but I know one who is 20

SirVixofVixHall · 07/11/2019 19:54

I have only seen it spelled Finlay, and only as a boy’s name. I really don’t like it for a girl.

Nonnymum · 07/11/2019 19:55

I think it's a boys name.

DramaAlpaca · 07/11/2019 19:56

Finley isn't unisex. It's a boys' name.

BonBon411 · 07/11/2019 19:58

I love it 🥰

balonzz · 07/11/2019 20:00

It kind of works for a girl IMO, but maybe spelt Finlay

yourestandingonmyneck · 07/11/2019 20:03

I love it as a boys name. I do also think it works as a girls name. But I just wouldn't now, due to the popularity. 15 years ago I would have said absolutely go for it, for either a boy or girl. But not now, sorry. It's just way too popular and the girl aspect just adds another dimension of hassle to it.

hauntedvagina · 07/11/2019 20:08

If you spelt it Finlay perhaps.

NameChange30 · 07/11/2019 20:12

Well you'll fit right in with all the people giving boys' names to their girls, because girls' names aren't cool enough apparently Hmm

No one uses girls' names for boys! God forbid!

usernamo · 07/11/2019 20:14

@NameChange30 well my favourite boys name is Eden and I was told on here how awful it was to give a boy a 'girls' name.

Better? Smile

NameChange30 · 07/11/2019 20:16

Case in point.
You were told not to use a girl's name for a boy.
And when you ask about using a boy's name for a girl, loads of people tell you to go for it.
Girls' names bad, boys' names good.
It's almost as if we live in a patriarchy...
