Is this a nice name? My dh likes it and I think I do but I’m not really sure I’ve come across it much. What do you think when you hear it?
I’ve already got a Gabrielle but am really struggling to think of names I like (boys or girls).
Tia

How about Delilah and shortening it to Lila?

Marlena1 · 03/11/2019 19:56

I think it's lovely

HalfManHalfLabrador · 03/11/2019 20:00

I like it

MissHenty · 03/11/2019 20:11

Yes Delilah shortened time Lila is GORGEOUS!

Ihatefootball86 · 03/11/2019 20:14

I remember the name from sweet valley high. It's nice.

reluctantlondoner · 03/11/2019 20:16

Would you say it lee-lah or lie-lah?

Freewanderer · 03/11/2019 20:26

Oh I stupidly hadn’t thought of Delilah! Doesn’t that make you think of Tom Jones?!
Iie- lah I was assuming but hadn’t thought about other pronounciations.

Leonie?

Thanks all!

I love Delilah ❤️
Go for that, with Lila for short. Beautiful

Isbutteracarb · 03/11/2019 21:00

I know a Lila (Lie-lah) who also gets called Lilia by friends (Lily-ah) - I think it's a lovely name.

user1493494961 · 03/11/2019 21:07

Not keen on the Lila, Lola, Luna fad.

Wheat2Harvest · 03/11/2019 21:14

I love the name Delilah but it will always be associated with the Tom Jones song which some people consider has dodgy lyrics.

diddlediddle · 03/11/2019 21:14

I think Lila is beautiful 👍🏼

MissHenty · 03/11/2019 21:19

Pretty sure the next generation won’t have heard of Tom Jones let alone his song Delilah

Plus... the name is far more mainstream now, it’s just crept into the top 100 names (it’s pretty far down the list though), Keira Knightley’s baby daughter has just been called Delilah- l LOVE it so much x

Otavis · 03/11/2019 21:30

I don’t like it at all. The only one I know is a hard-bitten, chain-smoking bottle-blonde B and B owner who cackles a lot, and I can’t help imagining a baby Lila sucking on a Woodbine and propping up the bar.

Freewanderer · 03/11/2019 22:17

@otavis - she sounds rather fun though, cackling lots?😂

Lila is a bit sort of, insubstantial, next to Gabrielle. Delilah is fabulous though, and you can use Lila as a diminutive.

Otavis · 04/11/2019 04:24

If your idea of fun is goosing the male bar staff and a gallon of Cinzano. Grin

Astronica · 04/11/2019 06:27

Lila is lovely, and possibly more popular than you think if that matters to you. I much much prefer the more streamlined Lila over the hyper-fussy sounding Delilah and (to me very dated) Leonie.

Other options: Leona, Eleanor, Louisa, Willa.

MikeUniformMike · 04/11/2019 14:26

Not keen on Lila. It's a bit nothingy and similar to other names like Lily, Leila, Lyra, Isla.
Delilah is too Tom Jones.

BroomstickOfLove · 04/11/2019 21:21

I love it - it's a name that's been used in my family for generations.

LucileDuplessis · 04/11/2019 21:23

I love it.

Paraballa · 04/11/2019 21:38

I'm not keen. How about Lilia instead. (Lill-ee-ah)

DramaAlpaca · 04/11/2019 22:27

How about Lilia instead

I'm old enough to remember a brand of sanitary towels called Lilia, so that's enough to put me off that name completely. Which is a shame, as it's so pretty.

HotSince82 · 04/11/2019 23:34

I have a Delilah who goes by Lilah.
I think by using the 'h' it helps to make it clear that its not pronounced as Lee-la.

Freewanderer · 05/11/2019 07:23

I like Delilah too but now thinking of the Tom Jones association. Like a pp says, perhaps next generation won’t even give second thought.
Lilia is unusual. I like. Will google tampons!
Thanks everyone. Seems some of u like it.
