BFPhopeful2019 · 03/11/2019 10:50

English husband seemingly hates all Irish boys names.

I love a few but struggling to get him on side.

Oisín
Aidan
Ronan
Enda
Eoghan
Sean

Can you lovely mumsnetters help a girl out with some other suggestions please.

Fintan or Finbar

BFPhopeful2019 · 03/11/2019 20:33

So many good options! Thanks Guys! God knows what he wants name wise; he’s not anti Irish names (our girls names are Irish) but he isn’t keen on any boys names....neither are his family. As the baby will be born and raised in the UK, this is the smallest little part of home to take forward.

Finn, as in Finn MacCool (was top of my list if dd had turned out to be ds). Or Michael (sorry can't do the fancy stuff on my phone!).

Or Ciaran. Ciaran is a lovely name. Dd is Ciara so totally biased.

Fiachra
Senan
Diarmuid
Cian
Seoirse (George)
Finbar
Cathal
Iarla
Naoise
Proinsias
Culainn
Ultan

My 3 boys names have already been mentioned. Smile

Oh and if you go with Seán, u must use the dada. Otherwise it is sean, which means “old”.

mountainofdreams · 03/11/2019 20:46

I like Ferdia, Donnacha and Doire.

Love Malachy Smile

Odhran
Senan
Ruairì
Diarmuid
Carraig
paraic
Tadhg

I think you need to consider how the name will be pronounced, some names when spoken seem to bear no resemblance to the spelling.

paraic - "paw-rick" in Ireland, could end up as "par-ack" in the UK. Etc

Reminds me of a English comedian doing a bit on the pronunciation of Irish Girls names - very funny .

I have a godson Odhran
A nephew Kian ( Cain)
And a son Cohen ( coen)

What about an Irish name with a more common spelling, a bit of both worlds maybe?

I do also love Lorcan and Loughlin Smile

kenandbarbie · 04/11/2019 18:15

Eamon

kenandbarbie · 04/11/2019 18:16

Donal or Domhnaill

BFPhopeful2019 · 04/11/2019 22:59

You guys are fantastic!

Gabriel very apt today 😢

Enda funnily enough is the only name he is willing to even consider at the moment, though I’ve got a good few others to put to him!

Our girls names are Aoife, Caoimhe & Saoirse. So a few to choose from and a couple that I think are very popular in the UK.

Are Malachi and Daniel not both Old Testament Hebrew names?

I think Dara/Darragh is great. DD 1 just started school with a very English boy named that so it's def not too out there!

Otavis · 04/11/2019 23:48

Naoise, Ferdia, Iarla, Tiarnan, Gearóid?

kenandbarbie · 05/11/2019 10:22

Your girls names are very Irish spellings, what is it he doesn't like about the Irish boys names?

yellowismyfavouritecolour · 05/11/2019 14:02

I've got a Saoirse. Her brother is called Fergus. I love it!

BFPhopeful2019 · 05/11/2019 22:53

I have absolutely no idea what he doesn’t like about Irish boys names (I don’t think he does either!). I think he just isn’t as keen on the boys names for some reason.

No progress has been made this far...,I have a feeling the last few weeks of pregnancy are going to be filled with name based ‘discussions’.

I second Eamon!
