Kerry? Avery?

Hard to decide between Avery and Kerry. Want you to criticize these two names. Or give me some ideas of what kind of person do you picture? Are they council house names? Which name could pass the supreme court test?

Being mean can help me quickly make a final decision so please bring it on or suggest some similar unisex names

Avery is so much better than Kerry/Kerrie. But then again a Kerrie-Anne had an affair with my ex-husband so I hate the name no matter what lol!

TenThousandSpoons · 02/11/2019 23:49

Don’t like Kerry for a girl and even worse for a boy.
Avery ok for a boy.

DarkLikeVader · 02/11/2019 23:51

I love Kerry as I knew one when I was little and thought she was lovely (not Kerrie though, that hurts my eyes)! Avery is just ok - seems more American. I would think both were girls names though.

LiterallyCantBelieveIt · 02/11/2019 23:56

Love the inspiration behind Kerry but unfortunately, it is most strongly associated with Kerry katona 😑

I'm not generally a fan of unisex names as usually that means a boys name that people start giving to girls to the point where people don't want to use it for boys anymore.

However, I don't mind either of the above but would use Kerrie for a girl and Kerry for a boy. I don't think I'd use Avery for a boy anymore.

Rowan is fairly safely unisex. I also know both a male and female Piper, Brooke and Logan.

This.

Avery is a paper brand. Kerry is OK. I've never met a house, council or not, with either name Wink

Same thoughts as DramaAlpaca and

OooErMissus · 03/11/2019 04:10

Kerry? Really? That's top of your list?

Avery seems very mid-20th century American to me, but probably just because of Charlotte's Web.

Really not a fan of either.

ElizabethMainwaring · 03/11/2019 04:31

Council house names? Utterly disgusting comment.

EleanorShellstrop100 · 03/11/2019 04:43

Kerry is really terrible!! Really REALLY terrible. Anything but Kerry. Avery is sweet.

EleanorShellstrop100 · 03/11/2019 04:48

As for what I think of when I hear the names... The only Kerrys I know are the school bully from when I was at senior school who used to smoke cigarettes at the back of the bus and wear loads of Argos gold rings on every finger and a really nice mechanic in his fifties who used to drink a pint of ale at my local every Sunday. I don’t know any Averys. It makes me think of birds. It’s quite American... I once watched an episode of the real housewives of somewhere or another and one of their daughters was called Avery. I remember specifically because I had never heard of it before. Actually I’ve said it a few times and now I’m thinking ‘ovary’. So maybe Avery isn’t great either.

Huggybear16 · 03/11/2019 04:51

First thought on Avery - the man from Making a Murderer

Peachbubble · 03/11/2019 07:28

I like Avery, not keen on Kerry

Courtney555 · 03/11/2019 08:20

@EleanorShellstrop100

Funnily enough both the Kerrys I knew are like that too! Both had gingery long hair. Hands full of Argos rings and gold chains with clowns or unicorns. One at my school who walked round smoking in her silver puffa jacket. The other who lived not far away was identifical. Like little Bianca Jacksons. Ones now approaching 40 and set up with a 19yo. Her own son is now 22.

Courtney555 · 03/11/2019 08:21

For unisex names, how about Alex, Drew?

Cookit · 03/11/2019 08:26

Kerry is so incredibly dated though isn’t it? It’s so 80s. A class full of Kerrys, Gemmas and Nicolas.

I see Kerry Katona also tbh.

Avery - I guess I would assume you are American?

So I guess I find them very different names. Kerry is probably born in Wigan in 1984 and Avery is 2010s US somewhere.

HeronLanyon · 03/11/2019 08:26

Kerry - would think county Kerry and assume a strong Irish connection. Kiri (NZ) is becoming more popular and I think I prefer it. Kerry doesn’t sound fully unisex to me (Like frances/cis or Lesley/ie - seems much more of a girl’s name ?
Avery - if in south London I’d think Avery Hill - i’d then worry spellings would be all over the shop for his/her life - mostly aviary - seems very much a girl’s name to my ear. Not sure what a boys nickname would be ?
Good luck op.

Somebodystired · 03/11/2019 08:28

I'm a Kerry, and although I have no issues with my name, please do not give it to a baby in this day and age! There are so many beautiful names out there and Kerry is not one of them.

user1493494961 · 03/11/2019 08:33

Don't like either, sorry.

MidnightMystery · 03/11/2019 08:41

Kerry bla
Avery - reminds me of "making a murderer"

orangeteal · 03/11/2019 08:46

Kerry seems very dated to me, most Kerrys I know are 35-40+.

Avery I associate as an American man's name, too feminine sounding for a boy in UK, but too much a boy's name to be a girl's if that makes sense. Also too close to sounding like a bird house.
