Kerry? Avery?

Hard to decide between Avery and Kerry. Want you to criticize these two names. Or give me some ideas of what kind of person do you picture? Are they council house names? Which name could pass the supreme court test?

Being mean can help me quickly make a final decision so please bring it on or suggest some similar unisex names

And wouldn't associated Kerry as being unisex at all.

QuinoaWest · 03/11/2019 08:54

...council house names?

Katie Hopkins-esque comment.

Loneranger14 · 03/11/2019 08:54

I love blakesley

AuntieStella · 03/11/2019 09:01

I would assume both were boys, and that the first was spelt Ceri

So if you are after unisex names, tending to boys names, try Rowan, Alex (Sasha for more masculine), Robin, Harley

mistydayswampwitch · 03/11/2019 09:18

Are they council house names?

Seriously!? I grew up in a council house. I have the same name as the Queen. Is that a council house name then? Must tell Her Maj

bridgetreilly · 03/11/2019 09:22

Avery is American and Kerry is 1970s/80s dated. I don't like either.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 03/11/2019 09:38

Sorry, I don't like either. Kerry is dated and Avery just doesn't flow well as a name. As a PP said, Kiri is nicer, or Mary?

IGot5OnIt · 03/11/2019 09:44

Avery is lovely can't stand the name Kerry but that might be because it's my neighbours name and all she does is scream at her kids 🙈

namechangexcx · 03/11/2019 09:48

I’m a Kerri born in the late 90s. I’ve never heard anyone call it a “council house name” Hmm before. People are often surprised that I’m so young when they hear my name before meeting me, so I can see why people have said it’s dated. I know a male Kerry in his late 40s so I’ve always thought of it as a unisex name with feminine spellings. FWIW I love my name, but I’m not sure I’d give it to a baby now.

DonkeyHotty · 03/11/2019 09:49

Hmm Kerry Katona and Kerry Muclowe.

Lilyannarose · 03/11/2019 09:50

Kerry went out years ago - along with your comment about council houses!

I dislike both names. I don't know if you are looking for boy or girl names? Though I don't like them I think these work better for a girl than a boy.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 03/11/2019 10:10

Avery reminds me of birds and is a very American sounding name.
Kerry, my husband has a beautiful, kind, funny, hardworking all round lovely niece who is in her early 30's who is nothing like the kerry's everyone has described on here but her name is spelt Ceri, maybe that's the difference. I like it

princesstinnedpeach · 03/11/2019 10:45

What about Lindsay or Hilary?

MikeUniformMike · 03/11/2019 14:51

Don't like Kerry. Avery is awful.

GwenCooper81 · 03/11/2019 14:55

Council House names? Vile comment.

dreichsky · 03/11/2019 15:18

Council house names is a very crass way of putting it.
But I'm not convinced that that the people saying Kerry Katona aren't saying the same thing in a more subtle way.
The UK is a class ridden society and names are part of that.
Name your dc any name you like OP but be aware that you aren't doing it in a vacuum.

TheSecretJeven · 03/11/2019 18:03

Avery means King of the Elves or Elf King. Its actually from Old French and/or Hebrew. Not sure I'd pick it myself.

Other unisex, perhaps dated, options:
Leslie/Lesley
Hilary
Vivian/Vivienne
Charlie
Robin
Marion/Marian
Carol
Alex
Jamie/Jaime
Francis/Frances

Probably more.

Trustmeimamidwife · 03/11/2019 18:06

They are council house names

ChillyB · 03/11/2019 18:11

Avery is a boys name and was Anglo Saxon for Alfred hence the “leader of elves” meaning. I don’t know any girls called Alfred so I personally wouldn’t use it for a girl.

Kerry - I’ve only known girls with this spelling and they were probably your stereotypical “mean girls”.

diddlediddle · 03/11/2019 21:19

If you're worried about whether they are "council house names" and you associate that with being negative, then why are you considering them?

I don't like either tbh.

BelfastmummyL · 03/11/2019 22:12

Kit
Lincon
Landon
Jamie
Jo
Drew
Frankie
Charlie

LiterallyCantBelieveIt · 04/11/2019 10:06

Dreichsky very sensible comments. It's no good pretending that names don't have class associations. Especially in the UK!

FizzyGreenWater · 04/11/2019 10:57

Just awful, totally awful. No idea whether this is supposed to be for a boy or a girl but - dated, dull, insipid sounds, just nothing to recommend either name. No good associations - Avery sounds like a brand, Kerry just sounds 80s.
