How popular is Arthur IRL?

I know that Arthur has rocketed in popularity in recent years but in real terms, I’m interested to see how many people actually know. I’ve always really liked the name but thought we’d settled on Toby but now I’m seriously considering Arthur too.

I love the name Arthur and always thought I would use it but it's SO popular where we live, we went to the park the other day and there was 4 Arthur's all around the same age in the park 😐 have been considering artie instead but dh isn't keen 🙄

BillieEilish · 02/11/2019 15:53

Know a few and DSis chose it too.

sunshineandshowers21 · 02/11/2019 15:53

i’m in the east midlands and i don’t know any arthurs. i go to quite a few baby classes and groups and i’ve never heard it.

MissHenty · 02/11/2019 15:55

I’m in the south and I don’t know any and I have 2 children under 5. I know one friend of a friend who has an Arthur. That’s it

ArthurtheCatsHumanSlave · 02/11/2019 16:08

I know a cat named Arthur Wink.

Gingerninja01 · 02/11/2019 16:10

I have known Arthur’s at most baby groups/soft play venues I’ve frequented recently. Only one per group though, not as though there were 100s of them.

Lavenderblues · 02/11/2019 16:12

It's gaining popularity in the under 5s!

TipseyTorvey · 02/11/2019 16:19

I love it, but in my mind I can't help saying it in Pauline's Eastenders voice but that was forever ago!

Matleavemadam · 02/11/2019 19:49

I know one Arthur and two Artie's all under 5

NannyR · 02/11/2019 19:55

More popular than Oliver where I live, there's loads of little Arthurs around and I only know of one Oliver.

NannyR · 02/11/2019 19:57

Sorry! I know you didn't mention Oliver.

MissHenty · 02/11/2019 19:59

If you love it @blondie87 I think you should use it. Will the popularity bother you that much? Look at the percentage of babies actually called Arthur- I think that will help you feel more confident. Your son might end up in a class with another Toby but no Arthur’s. Will you feel a bit annoyed then at your choice?

Ps. I love both Arthur and Toby by the way 🤩

hungryhippie · 02/11/2019 20:06

I don't know any Arthurs.
I heard one Mum shouting her Arthur in the supermarket the other day though. I'd guess he was about 10.

OneTwoFreddysComingForYou · 02/11/2019 20:16

I know two - one is 18m and one is 3yo. It is a lovely name though!

Dauphinois · 02/11/2019 20:27

I know 3 between 8 and 10. None younger or older.

joffreyscoffees · 02/11/2019 20:40

There's been an Arthur at all DD's baby groups. That being said, I much prefer it to Toby. I find Tony a very 'meh' name.

CodenameVillanelle · 02/11/2019 20:43

I know 3 Arthurs under 3

blondie87 · 02/11/2019 21:20

Thanks for the Arthur anecdotes! To be honest @MissHenty popularity per se, just don’t want faddy if you see what I mean. I like quite traditional names and one son has a top 30 name and another outside the top 100- I just find naming human such a responsibility! I’m a bit of a baby name nerd!

My grandad is called Arthur and he bought me a dog, I called the dog Arthur Grin

Cbeebiesrehab · 03/11/2019 00:16

I know two Arthurs born this year and an Artie. However I don’t think it’s faddy, it's a solid, traditional name. Considered it myself but don’t like Art/Artie and like a nickname.

HelloGeeniee · 03/11/2019 11:27

Arthur has been my #1 boys name for years now but recently it’s got so popular and I know 4 little Arthur’s, including my cousins son Sad

SallyWD · 03/11/2019 11:29

I don't know any and until recently worked at a primary school. None at my kids school either.

WellTidy · 03/11/2019 11:30

There are three Arthurs in DS’ class of 22 boys. Year 7.

Confusedbeetle · 03/11/2019 11:32

Not name you would want if you watch Peaky Blinders
