Top favourite boys name for several years now. At least 3 Olivers in both DCs classes / out of school activities......

PsychosonicCindy · 01/11/2019 15:48

Just makes me get songs from Oliver! in my head....never before has a boy asked for more..etc

Peachbubble · 01/11/2019 15:50

Very very popular. Not a name I'd choose, personally.

Strangerthingshere · 01/11/2019 15:51

Don't know why people are against a name because its popular, I think if you like it, go for it! Can also be shortened to Olly to make it slightly different

hungryhippie · 01/11/2019 15:53

Same as PsychosonicCindy
"Oliver, Oliver, never before has a boy wanted more...."

Roselilly36 · 01/11/2019 15:56

I like it OP

MikeUniformMike · 01/11/2019 16:13

I don't like Olly but otherwise it's nice. Very popular so will be Olly Surname or Olly S.

MissHenty · 01/11/2019 16:25

I really love it. It’s classic

MissHenty · 01/11/2019 16:26

It’s the no 1 name but the percentage of boys with this name is actually very small compared to the 80s top names when we were growing up

RoseToes · 01/11/2019 16:27

I’m biased as I have one, but I love it!. He gets called Ollie by most people, so if you don’t like the nickname don’t do it.

Naomimi · 01/11/2019 17:31

I like it, it’s popular but for a reason. Handsome and versatile, and I like that it’s not as childish as all the Alfie/Archie/Freddie/Bertie type names.

Jossina · 01/11/2019 22:12

I love it.

MrBobLobLaw · 01/11/2019 22:25

S'fine.

DramaAlpaca · 01/11/2019 23:02

I love it. I considered it, but there are so many in DH's side of the family over three generations that I decided the family really didn't need any more of them.

Astronica · 02/11/2019 00:12

I like it a lot. I don't like Ollie though so that would put me off.

Omashu · 02/11/2019 06:10

Do you really need people’s thoughts on Oliver? What is there to say? Its popular 🤷🏼‍♀️

mistermagpie · 02/11/2019 06:43

It's a nice name, although I hate Ollie, but awfully boring.

Cookit · 02/11/2019 07:30

Can also be shortened to Olly to make it slightly different

I’m not sure that makes it much different. I’ve met only one Oliver in my whole life who wasn’t Ollie / Olly.

It’s a really nice name I think and I like both Oliver and Ollie. Ollie is such a happy sounding name. But yeah, it’s very popular. Classic though too - I know Olivers of all ages so despite its crazy popularity it won’t date overly.

SkyShadow · 02/11/2019 07:40

It’s a fine name, but I wouldn’t use it as I’m not keen on the Ollie / Olly shortening.

Lavenderblues · 02/11/2019 07:42

I know loads of Olivers (Ollies) aged 18 and under. I find it very boring and hard to remember. Definitely needs a surname or other adjective to differentiate!

SkyShadow · 02/11/2019 07:47

I wouldn’t describe Oliver as being crazy popular either.

It was the number 1 boys name in England and Wales last year, yes. But fewer than 1% of all babies born last year were Oliver’s.

Hermanfromguesswho · 02/11/2019 07:54

Mine is 14 now. He’s never had another Oliver in his class (except for once at pre school) and he’s never been shortened to Ollie (except by his sister!)

MissHenty · 02/11/2019 08:02

Yes I agree @SkyShadow gone are the days when 1 in every 5 boys were given the same name (John)

Stistically he is likely to be the only Oliver in his class. There’s no Oliver’s in my sons preschool but there’s two Wren’s

mamaduckbone · 02/11/2019 10:01

I like it - it's classic and Ollie as a nn is ok too.
Ds1 is 14 and Ds2 is 10 and there are loads in both of their years (4 on ds1's rugby team!) but I don't know any teeny ones so I think it's less popular than it was.

mamaduckbone · 02/11/2019 10:03

Herman funny that your ds is 14 and never come across another one! All the Olivers that ds1 knows are Ollie as well (with their surname as there are so many of them!)
