Names that make you smile (and some tough criteria!)

My only regret about my sons name is that it has an “oh” sound at the beginning that makes you sort of frown when you say it. So i like names that start with a sound that makes you smile like the “Ay” sound in Ava, EE or ,Eh (Evie, Eleanor) so you smile as you say them. Or just happy names

Must be two syllables or more

And must go with a surname that’s not too dissimilar from “bottom” so nothing descriptive I.e Rosie bottom

Boy or girl.

Boys name should be able to shout across a rugby pitch without sounding daft

We like Anna and Caspian but ruled out Caspian because if might not suit a gruff teenage lad.

What about Aidan for a boy?

EspressoPatronum · 01/11/2019 09:33

Gruff teenage lad could be Cass. I love Caspian, or alternately Cassian. They were front runners until we found out dc2 was a girl!

EspressoPatronum · 01/11/2019 09:34

Sorry I know that's not helpful when you've ruled it out already, I just love it!

Ethan
Leo(n)
Daniel
Freddie
Andrew
Jacob
Nathan
Matthew

Evangeline, for a girl, shortens to Evie

Bigoldwimp · 01/11/2019 09:59

@EspressoPatronum I do still like it. Need to convince my husband. I think it sounds like a warriors name, he think it sounds like a choristers name

Aiden , Toby and Ethan are nice. I also like Leo a lot but my husband is firm against it.

How about Casper instead of Caspian? Can still be Cas but is more flexible imo!

EspressoPatronum · 01/11/2019 10:28

I liked Caspar too but it was a form no from dh 🙄

More helpfully,

Cassie/cassia
Meredith (Merry)
Zoe
Aoife
Sadie
Zadie

Boys names are harder!

MissHenty · 01/11/2019 10:31

Miles (even rhymes with smiles)
Rex
Eli
Ellis
Elliot
Barnaby (does that work?)

Edith (Eddie)
Delilah
Anya
Emmy

MikeUniformMike · 01/11/2019 10:44

I like Anna and Caspian

PrincessLouis · 02/11/2019 20:15

Anna is perfect

With a bit of a tricky surname I would go for a classic boy’s name too - Charles, Samuel, Benjamin, John, Andrew, Henry?

Not Miles as previously suggested as Miles + Bottom = Piles Grin

Jossina · 02/11/2019 21:11

Has he never read Prince Caspian? That guy was killing people with a sword and leading an army. Sounds grrr to me.

BelfastmummyL · 02/11/2019 21:48

Happy names!
Jesse (gift)
Isaac (means laughter in Jewish history)
Louis
Charlie (bonny Prince!)

Emily
Any name with Bella (beautiful girl) eg Annabelle or isabella
Grace - the name says it all
Joy or Joyanna
Beatrice - she who brings happiness
Abigail - makes her father joyful
Edith (NN Edie) - happy warrior. I like this name and especially like the meaning. Strong yet happy!
In Northern Ireland two common names meaning happiness are Maeve (May-ve) and Aine (on-ya)
