My little girl is 3 weeks old and we can't decide between these two names, I have a boy called Archie too

Someone was on here a week or so ago and she was annoyed because people keep saying her baby's name wrong...baby called Mia...they were pronouncing it "My-ah" instead of "Me-ah"

I'd go with Evie anyway...Mia is a bit too popular. It's the 5th most popular name in the UK in 2019 wheras Evie is 12th.

wildgirls · 31/10/2019 08:56

Mia!! People really slate it on here saying too common etc but I have one and we only know one other in her school. It’s actually one of the least popular names round here! Both are beautiful names though. Congratulations!

Mia

I think Archie and Evie has a lovely sound to it

Mumtum22 · 31/10/2019 09:41

You have a mia? I'm interested to find out then if people pronounce your daughter name wrong?

They're both very popular. Evie less likely to be mispronounced. Why not go for Eve though, and you can still call her by the diminutive. She can then choose to have a less 'little girly' name when she wants to be taken seriously as a surgeon or business woman or judge...

All other suggestions welcome!

I prefer Evie out the two, I do love Eve, Eva and Ava as well though.

MissHenty · 31/10/2019 10:11

Love both names and I think Mia will be pronounced correctly by the younger generation as it’s mainstream now. Older people may mispronounce but who cares

Mumtum22 · 31/10/2019 10:12

I do too but know people with wee ones with those names

Mia, but then I have one so I’m bias. We get it pronounced wrong by so many people, they mainly say May-a or miy-ah which irritates me but it’s normally at the doctors/hospital etc.

SallyAnne89 · 31/10/2019 10:25

I prefer Eve with a pet name of Evie because I think it sounds better on an adult, but I think both are lovely names

PetraRabbit · 31/10/2019 10:43

In honesty, Evie sounds like a nickname and it's very babyish. I know it's incredibly popular but think it's not grown up enough for an adult. It's hard to predict whether your child will like their name when they are older but if you do love Evie please give her Eve or Evelyn or something similar as a full name so at least she's got the option of an adult name.
Mia is very very popular but it's pretty and easy to say, spell and pronounce worldwide which is a plus.

daisypond · 31/10/2019 10:49

Mia out of those. Evie is too nicknamey.

Mollpop · 31/10/2019 10:49

I prefer Evie. But DD1 is an Evie so I'm biased.

SallyAnne89 · 31/10/2019 10:52

I like more traditional names with Archie like Charlotte, Lauren, Elizabeth

I think Eliana is very pretty

I know a lot of little Mias and Evies, but the most important thing is that you like the name. I think they're both very sweet. My only reservation with Evie is that it sounds to me like a little girl's name and I wonder if she will feel it fits as well when she's an adult. I personally would go with Evelyn and then she has a few shortening options as she gets older. We've done similar with our DS as we liked a shortening that I thought might be a bit too 'cute' for an adult.

Just as a suggestion, I love the name Lucy which is similar to the ones you like. It will be a strong contender if we ever have a DD!

Eve, nn Evie.

I don't like Mia at all, even without the pronunciation and spelling issues.

EleanorShellstrop100 · 31/10/2019 18:31

I don’t like Mia , I like Eve or Eva

Mumtum22 · 31/10/2019 18:50

Yeah I think mia is a no go to be honest but I'd love some more suggestions as I'm starting to get really stressed trying to pick a name
